My throttle works perfectly, but the sheath is flaking off. Has anyone found a way to recover this, taped over it, or a small hose, etc.

I know i can replace the whole thing for just over $100, but just wanted to see if there are any ideas to extend the life of this one

Thanks

Heat shrink tubing brought mine back to showroom quality.

Yes, heat shrink tubing & a hot air gun.
Be advised that there are several different materials that are available in heat shrink, with some range of temperature performance.
Some are exotic and expensive, for high heat duty, like maybe teflon, for repairing your jet engine wiring harness?
Search the internet, I cannot advise beyond that.
I have only used the ordinary common Polyolefin stuff, above an engine valve cover, and worked OK, but they did seem to soften some in use where it was right up against something hotter.
Many sizes & colors are available.

Thanks for the replies, i looked at the polyelofin stuff and was going to go that way

I'm interested to see exactly what solution you come up with, length, diameter, etc. I'm in the same boat as you, but cable seems to work fine. Can't justify a 100 buck replacement for looks, but I'm sure performance will degrade with out some TLC.

That's a good idea. Might just keep the junk out of the coiled steel and help it last a bit longer...

:hhmm:

Dual Wall Adhesive Marine Heat Shrink - 10 Ft Roll - 1/2 Inch Diameter - Black Amazon product ASIN B06XF3J9T1

Ended up using this. shrinks down well and looks nice and thick, like a sheath. Now to see how it lasts, will report back if there any problems. This is not my DD, so takes time for me to get some miles.

Mine was not marine quality but has held up well for almost a decade now.
