Thinking about swapping my Raptor for an LC200

Great thread, I have actually been back and forth the past few weeks about a similar idea only difference is that my wife has a 2020 LC200 HE and I drive a 19 Raptor. I am a huge Raptor fan and absolutely love it, but also a huge LC fan. I can never let go of the LC200 especially since they are not bringing them back to the US market (at least for right now). She loves the LC, but wanted something a little smoother and lower so she can get in and out easier (partially my fault because I added the Icon Stage 4 set up to it). With the market being so crazy I have been back and forth with trading in my Raptor for something else she would want and making the LC200 my vehicle. Ultimately, I need a truck and can't let the Raptor go, but also love the Land Cruiser too much to let it go. Moving forward I think we are keeping both and going back to either stock suspension or OME springs and lowering the coil overs up front to satisfy her. Both vehicles are amazing IMO, it really just comes down to what suits you best and if I could I would want both for my self haha.

To OP. Here are some LC data for you to compare with your Raptor.

LC RTI = 661:

The Raptor SCREW rti is 627 which is great for a truck. I would own a Raptor if I had open dirt roads and trails. But, in the South it’s a pretty dang useless truck. Too wide for most trails and the typical narrow roads with no shoulders. It’s a pain in the arse to park in downtown areas and don’t make a great two vehicle.

Wait for the Raptor R before deciding 😎 but it will ride on stock 37”, so getting in/out can be a problem for old people. 😁

Haha I can't wait for them to release all the info on the R. I will more than likely trade my 19 in for it.

I just talked my buddy off the ledge today when he was seriously considering on trading his MY19 Raptor Baja edition on 37” for a new Discovery. He wants something easier to daily drive but have off-road chops. Couldn’t believe my ears, so after a 30min. rant on why that was a bad decision, he’s just going to wait. The kicker is, he had a Range Rover in the past and was disappointed when the grab handle fell off when he was using it as an assist getting into drivers seat. Some people never learn. 🤣

Funny, I was also considering a new Land Rover Defender. On paper it looks like an amazing vehicle especially with the V8. After reading some LR forums and also watching tons of youtube, it boggles my mind that there's still both huge design and quality issues at LR. Having to dig through computer menus for certain things or having the siding falling off a brand new vehicle is not my idea of a good purchase. There is no way all the electronics on one of those is going to last anywhere near the life of an LC200.

It’s a real shame. My first LR product was a brand new ‘05 LR3. We loved it until it started having suspension issues. Mostly error codes but it was in the shop every quarter for something code related. Got fed up and traded it in. When were talking about the new Defender in the restaurant parking lot, a nice looking grey one rolled in loaded up with all the LR overland options attached.

This is a bad thread.

I came here thinking of updating my 100 series to a 200 series.... but now I want a Raptor!

Haha

Go for it buddy. The thing about the LC is it just delivers on so many of the things we look for in a vehicle.

Yes I look at Range Rovers, G Wagens, and specially the new Escalade with lustful eyes but I've played that game before.
Ive done my fair share of trade ins/upgrades for the newer and shinier toys and all of the wasteful spending of my youth.
I would just rather keep my car longer and appreciate it and save the money.

If I keep my LX for 20 years and do the basic maintenance it needs, my calculated cost of ownership is insalely low. The crazy part about this is at 20 years, it will feel like a 10 year old car and sell for good money. Also, there is no other platform that will give me the peace of mind I'm looking for after that first decade if they even make it that far. Theres a reason the LC is THE hallmark car of the affluent. Where Ive lived in Austin and Houston is flooded with them and so is every other wealthy zip code in the US. My LX is not a Bentayga no, but I know better than that and so do most of those folks.

I dont know about your style, but I sold my nice watches years ago. I realized I don't like how loud they were despite being a watch fanatic since I learned to walk.
Hell if budget or longevity or practicality were no issue I would daily drive a G63 4X4² but in the real world, my car is almost perfect.

I did the same, all Omega's, Rolex's and Panarei's went on down the road. I used to covet my watch collection and I still admire the fine craftsmanship of their inner workings but I no longer care about that kind of vanity. We love our LC and we really liked the LX that came before it and even though the selling dealer is now offering me a few thousand over sticker for it there's just no way that we could let it go. Now the new 3500 diesel I just picked up three months ago could be pried from my hands for the right figure and I have to admit that I am half tempted to see what it'll bring.

I owned a first and second gen Raptor, my father did as well and while I consider myself a Ford fanboy I have to admit that the Raptor just never did it for me. Different strokes for different folks, but to me a truck should operate well as a truck first and foremost and short of having a bed it really sucks at that. Now the soft rear suspension is to blame for this shortcoming but it is what it is.

I currently own a 2011 Raptor SCAB, a 2020 Land Cruiser, and recently bought a 2021 Ram TRX. I wished I could keep all three because they are all great trucks, but I am planning to sell the Raptor.

The TRX is better than the Raptor in most every way and is insanely fast, fun, and comfortable. The main downside is the Trx is a bigger truck both in dimensions and feel. It is definitely more of a handful in city driving and would not be great for tight trails. It is loaded with so much tech I worry about future reliability.

The Ford has the 6.2L v8, but early on I added cams, headers, exhaust, etc and netted 69 rwhp (est. 100 hp at the crank). The fact that my “old” truck made a little more hp than the later generation Raptors made me reluctant to ever change to the ecoboost. That and the fact that my buddy is a Ford mechanic who does a lot of cam phaser fixes and is not a fan of the ecoboost engines. The truck has been super reliable and my favorite vehicle I have owned (and have owned the longest).

I was strongly thinking of selling the LC because its a big chunk of money, but I can’t do it. It was a bucket-list dream vehicle for me and I hope I never have to sell it. The capability, reliability, and heritage of the Land Cruiser is just off-the-charts cool.

Gas mileage for all three is surprisingly similar; all bad although the LC does the best!

I have a buddy who has both a Raptor and a TRX as well and he agrees that the TRX is the better truck in every way. This is coming from a long time Ford fan too. I too worry about the long term reliability of the advanced tech in the RAM products but so far so good.

Can we kill this thread? OP is keeping his Raptor. No tech, no 200, seems silly.

Sometimes I think there should be a separate section for "should I trade my * for a 200" (the answer is always either yes, or whatever you already decided before posting the question), "should I buy this 200" (it is rusty, if you live in the South, the answer is no, if you live in the rust belt, the answer is yes, if you never work on your own car the answer is who cares), what tires should I run (there is no one good answer that fits all driving, or KO2 if you are asking me or @Madtiger), what is the largest tire I can run without major mods (33s), what oil should I use (RTFM), and does * fit my Heritage Edition (yes, everything from a "base" fits, it is just a trim package). Like maybe a Chit-Chat section. hint, hint.

Sorry, for me, the Ford F-150 Hybrid takes the cake. On-board generator is THE killer feature. That alone destroys any 4x4 tech and crazy-a$$ engine available on other trucks. Think about it…your truck can power the whole damn house for days during a natural disaster! Forget about the usefulness during camping or cross-country travel. If i ever get rid of my LC (never!), F150 hybrid will be it.

And IF i only need true off-road toy (and no desire to go aftermarket), then i would get Rubicon 392 that would literally destroy both of those trucks over pretty much any terrain (except highway/on-road). Full set of lockers. RTI that is at least 100 better than above. FULL-time 4wd. Small size. Great clearances that makes the above trucks look like ice cream trucks.

I’d take a TRX over the newer Raptor any day. They nerfed that truck when they took the V8 out of it and it sounds like a riced out civic

I would never own a TRX or Raptor though. Lease it, run the hell out of it, and trade it in.

TRX is the best muscle truck. Is it better offroad where 450 vs 700 HP doesn't matter that much but being front heavy does? That's a debate for the race-dezert forums. The thing about the TRX that would make it a no go for me is the MPG/Range. The TFL review where they got 10.8 MPG FREEWAY was shocking. I get 11 mpg towing a 20 foot travel trailer with the raptor, 350 mile range. Close to 19 MPG freeway on unladen road trips for over 600 mile range. Mixed driving it gets a little under 16 for 550 mile range. This was a consideration with the 200 I forgot to post about. I saw the gas gauge drop noticeably on my test loop and thought "Uh oh, this thing is THIRSTY going up the pass."

On the 'stealth wealth' factor with the LC that is something of a consideration for me. I live in a ski town where most people don't make a ton of money. I don't want to be driving around town or pulling up to a house party in an obviously expensive luxury vehicle and get treated like some rich d-bag. I'm just a grown up snowboard bum that got lucky in picking the right career at the right time. Funny that watches were brought up above, I sold off my Omegas and IWC, just kept a Tudor Pelagos because nobody but watch guys know tudor. Might as well be a seiko. In any case a 200 with a lift and chunky ATs could easily be mistaken for a 4runner or sequoia. Same with the raptor, just looks like a lifted truck to most. I like it that way.

I get it; the TRX is not for everybody and will draw the ire of some. For me, it is an absolute smile machine; a total blast to drive. It also has a ton of utility, space, comfort and luxury. It’s a bit like apples and oranges when comparing pickups and suv’s. The Rubicon 392 shares more in common with the LC 200.

Like I said before I grew up in south Tahoe. Pretty much everyone that has lived there since the late 1990’s either: makes a ton of money, has made a ton of money, or their family has a ton of money. I only know if 2 people from my high school class that still live there.

If someone was going to give me a off road truck today for high speed off road I’d go G 4x4^2. And have to agree with @Madtiger for an off road toy the 392 is pretty much it. Since I’ll have to buy what ever I get next it will most likely be a Rivian or Cyber truck, and I’ll keep my LX.

The average income in south lake is $26k. There is certainly money up here like there is in any ski town but most of the town is not well off to say the least. In any case, my crew is all casino workers and LEO. I'm not rollin up to the BBQ in a G Wagon with a rolex on, lol!

392 is cool but for a pure offroad toy I'd rather just drive an F250 Tremor so I could tow a SXS or dirt bikes for high speed or a buggy for crawling.
