Thinking about swapping my Raptor for an LC200

I can charge my model 3 empty to full in 10 hours off my ~450 ft^2 home solar. A football field is 48,000 ft^2 so you could charge ~100 model 3’s a day off a solar array that large

but yes it will be a long time (if we ever) get to close to 100% effective. As of now any type of solar panels on a truck would do little to nothing.

Well 10 hours is infinitely longer than instantaneous immediate energy and weren't talking about charge time either.
No one is knocking elec cars. Our next vehicle will be fully electric. But the idea that solar can run a vehicle is just not worth even discussing right now.

Also, none of this is happening in a vacuum. You wouldn't just be depending on a few panels covering your vehicle, but rather a huge connected grid where you car could be charged by energy transferred from the road surface either directly, or something similar to the way wireless charging happens now with phones.

Exactly this. We have PLENTY of existing modes of transport that run on electricity and don't use batteries. Actually for quite some time, 1881 actually google is saying was the first electric tram. Most of the time the cities elec is run along, beneath or above the road anyway. Trying to use solar to power anything but a battery or small high efficiency system is not even worth thinking about.

Rapter who?

Well the wife approved trading raptor for a 2016 LX570.

Now I need to figure out how to make a deal.

LX has a ton of wife appeal. Mine loves the car more than I do. :) almost

She is unwilling to take less luxury then the raptor gives her.

but the lx570 has no apple car play so I will need to install the dongle to make that work. Its crazy that screen isnt touch screen.

Im personally in the camp of get anything touch in a vehicle away from me.
The LX touch command is only some UI and calibration away from being fantastic.
Its really unfortunate that the UI was not redesigned to accommodate a floating cursor and it was killed off.

Getting car-play is fairly easy but tedious. I dont use it because i have nice phone mounting solution that is way cleaner and easier to use anyway and doesnt lock out my phone.

There is a video of someone doing it in a trx and its not a big jump but the front suspension appears to have not worked well.

The bikes! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Well when it was time to make the drive the wife told me she didn't want to trade in her raptor. Guess life goes on, she did say I could buy an older 200 series.

I dont think she liked the idea of taking a $65k vehicle off road and damaging it. Life goes on, I will keep on my quest

First off, Congrats on the good deal, its sounds like a raptor may be better suited for your criteria but I would pose a couple questions. While you go off roading weekly, are you interested in the vehicle more to drive everyday or go off road?

Also, While there is nothing wrong with wheeling in a 60k vehicle, have you have considered something like a rzr, in many respects they actually are a better option for off roading, crushing a quarter panel on a daily drive can suck.

I think raptors are really cool, and are set up almost perfectly, but I really don't trust Ford Engines, its not exactly their strong point over the past 3 decades or so.
I suspect I'll have a combo like this is the future with the amount of wheeling we do. New Tundra, a trailer with quads for the family, dirtbike for me. But that adds towing, maintenance on the toys, sucks in inclement weather, not as much storage for camping, etc. So it's nice to have the OPTION of wheeling in a big luxury vehicle regardless of type.

Perfect example, on our last dunes trip my buddy had his turbo RZR with paddles. It was a beast on the dunes and tight trails near the beach, surely a faster pure toy out there. OTOH day 2 him and the kids got SOAKED and were shivering after an hour. Mine are sitting in the back with CC set to 68 degrees, snacks and drinks, EDM on the speakers while we hit 70 on the beach and donuts in the sand. Get done and he had to change, warm up, load the trailer, hookup, etc. I just aired back up. :D

Hell Yeah, Thats just weakness leaving the body...

Actually I am actually kind of liking the new tundra, I like that they are making better efforts to make it off road capable. Its technology looks good to go. Considering it now shares the same platform as the LC, i think the tundra will become a more viable option for outdoor stuff. For example, In the past the 200 series was a little more robust and equipped with a better off road system so it was a more natural choice.

Today, it looks like one can pretty much achieve the same robustness with the Tundra, or Sequioa at a 50k discount. I like that. From experience working in the middle east, it annoys me greatly that I can buy a new LC200 with 5.7 and cloth seats in Kuwait for 50k, but not only will Toyota refuse to sell the package to me in the States, The DOT will not let me import because despite being the same damn vehicle that is sold in the states its a different because of a plastic badge on the tailgate.

Throw some E lockers on it and a set of 35 and done.

If you think you're going to get the new Tundra in TRD Pro trim for $50K less than a LC then I want some of what you're smoking lol. All of the new tech combined with a more expensive engine, chassis and tranny, I fully expect the new TRD Pro Tundra to sell for well into the 60's if not even touching $70K when fully loaded.

I have a buddy going the other direction in regards to the Raptor and LC/LX transition. He sold his GX for a LX and now only six weeks later he's out looking at lightly used Raptors. He says he misses having a truck (it has been two years since he sold his Tundra) and he's not into the new engine or the looks of the new Tundra so a Raptor it is. I tried to tell him that the Eco Boost in the Raptor is very similar to what you'll see in the new Toyota's going forward but he's fully hooked on the idea of a Raptor and deaf to facts and sensibility. I did convince him to keep the LX and let his aging parents use it when needed and that way it can be retired to camping and dog runner duty in a few years so all is not lost lol.

55k for zr2 but it’s not on the website to validate

For me, two things suck about the new Tundra TRD Pro:

1. No full-time 4wd. Chevy and Ford have AUTO 4wd that you can use on dry land. Toyota still has part-time 4wd i think.

2. Despite being hybrid, no generator option….like you see in F150 hybrid.
