Thinking about a 200 and have a few questions

You may as well consider the RAM 1500 with the 3.0 Diesel. I think it tops out at 8500# towing with the air suspension and bed-integrated storage boxes. I test drove one a few months ago and it was extremely quiet and smooth. Cabin interior was LX570 quality on the Longhorn Limited Trim.

Must have been a 6.0, no?

It was, however it was bullet proofed. EGR delete, head studs, FICM upgrade, remote oilcooler, HPOP, FASS, etc. The issues with break downs were things like the ignition wire frayed inside the column and wouldnt work. Fuel pump kept blowing fuses, transmission would go into limp mode if it rained, vacuum hubs stopped locking (replaced with manual), ABS warning light if at a stoplight too long, horn would honk if the rear windshield wiper was turned on, any code you could think of would unlock the pushbutton security on the door. Just weird electrical gremlins. Motor when great!

Found out the wheel base of the candidates. The 200 is definitely too short. I was really surprised at how small the Ex was compared to the rest.

200 Series- 112.2
Excursion- 137.1
Ram 1500 EcoDiesel- 149
Ram 3500 Mega Cab (Cummins)- 160
Tundra CrewMax- 145.7

I did bring up the subject of selling my 80 and getting a 200. Probably not happening though, at least in the short-mid term.

Thanks for everyone's feedback though

One other bit of info: The Tundra CrewMax is only available with the short 5.5' bed. The RAM 1500 Crew Cab can be ordered with a 6.5' bed which can make a big difference if you want to mount a tool box in the bed.

You guys are too funny!

I am going crazy trying to find something that will work. Fact is, all thew new diesels due to emissions. They are getting close to making them more solid, but I think they are 4-5 years away. At least for the HD trucks- F250/F350/2500/3500. I am not sure about the ecodiesel. I do know I would not own a newer diesel without a warranty.

I like cummins, awesome engine. I had a 4BT in my 80 and it was a good engine. Loud, yes, but solid.

I am on the fence about what to get. Ideally, a 06/07 Megacab with a stick would be it. I did find one, but they're proud of it for it's condition. And it's a dually, which isn't my first choice.

Still thinking about the tundra. It seems like they are good for up to 8K realistically, then they can get overloaded

2001-2006 Suburban with the 8.1L gasser?

Buy a used Armoured truck. Pull anything redo the interior for comfort and camping. Get one with a CAT engine. Plus you will feel save towing through Chicago, Baltimore, Detroit etc. also when camping out in the middle of nowhere. Just make sure you don't weld up the gun portals.

That has no WAF. I would be living by myself if I went that route.

not enough tow capacity. I did look up some 2010s. they have a 9600 tow rating and definitely meet the WAF. I showed her some on ebay and she liked them. the downside is that is just like getting a minivan, all the soccer moms have them. not what I usually do, but there are times when it's good to go with the flow

The 01-06 Suburban 2500 with the 8.1L has a tow capacity of 12,000 lbs. Even the 'Burb 2500 with the 6.0 has a towing capacity of 9900.
What is WAF?

WAF = Wife Approval Factor?

Hmm, I saw the older ones at 7100. I will revisit if they are 12,000. that's impressive for a gasser.

Yes. I have heard it as Wife Acceptance Factor. Although looking at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wife_acceptance_factor it says Approval too.

In my line of business WAF = Web Application Firewall

LOL@WAF

I'm kinda late to this but yes the '01-'06 2500 Burbs/Yukons with the 8.1 big block gas motor and the 4.10(I think) gears have a 12k pound tow cap and near 3k pound payload cap.

Expect 8-12mpg and consistent high single digits if towing heavy. I really really want one for the wife but the gas mileage with her having to use it as a daily driver is a killer.
