Thinking about a 13-15 LX570. Am I crazy? (1 Viewer)

992.1 911 and '13 LX570 share the garage here!

The LX is a big, reliable, solid, heavy, lumbering workhorse. Quiet, but thirsty. We plan to keep it forever! Go drive one.

I went from a 2014 F150 Ecoboost (160k miles) to a 2011 LC200 (215k miles) and loved it, reduced my vehicular stress substantially. On the Ford I did cam phasers and timing chains, turbo oil lines, chased many leaks, and had the intake valves gum up so bad with carbon it started to affect compression. That and experience with a family member's 1.5L Escape, I'll never own a Ford Ecoboost product again. My wife also had that same generation RX before a 2016 LC200, and while it was a great car we vastly prefer the bank vault feel of the LC to the unibody/car feel of the RX despite the MPG penalty.

LC200/LX570 are amazing platforms. Find one with good service history and no rust and there really isn't much to worry about.

We just did 600 miles round trip for Thanksgiving in our 2016, 6 passengers plus a Thule box on top up in to the mountains through a winter storm and back, in quiet comfort and 17.7 MPG on the dash and never a worry about the weather conditions. Not another vehicle out there I'd rather do that trip in.

Speaking of two car setup…
Both wagons with vertical rear glass (as it should be).
Both AWD/4WD
Both 18” wheels
Both have tinted windows.
Both have meager MPG
Both excel at their intended, albeit completely different, purposes.
Both are a hoot to drive.

will the reeal @Madtiger please stand up

his LC was so bad he sold it

he is the resident f150 troll

not only is it reliable, powers his house , but also cooks and cleans for him
Thanks for invite. :) I was just letting the door hit me on my a$$ until you called me back….

I love my LC…but after getting the 2023 F150, there was no need for two vehicles…and i had to pick one that is better all-around. F150 is just much more practical, quieter on highway, driving position is light years ahead of LC, Blue Cruise on drive is a game-changer, getting 21-22 mpg on regular gas, 650 miles range / tank, and of course, powered my house during hurricanes with its on-board 7.2 kW generator.

Is it durable? Likely not. I plan to get rid of it at first sign of issue after 120k miles (my ext warranty period). Is it reliable? So far so good at 40k miles. It is disposable good in every sense of the word.

But i have found that at my old age, i love the comfort / convenience features of disposable goods to be paramount over old reliable goods that are just not pleasant day to day. YMMV.

As for cooking and cleaning, that is another story…not so much disposable…no warranty period…but she has plenty of comfort features. :)

Fellow Hoosier here.

In a word: no. No, you're not crazy. Actually, it would be quite sensible. Without hesitation, I would get the LX or LC in place of the F150. Ecoboost engines of any size seem to be money pits beyond 125k miles (or sooner); they seem to be more German in their design and construction with all the plastic components that should be metal. Sounds like you seldomly use the pickup part of your truck. My brother has a small 5x10 utility trailer I borrow 3-4 times a year takes care of hauling big stuff. The LX has been simple and straightforward to maintain by a shade-tree mechanic - yours truly. Your proximity to The Car Care Nut is a huge bonus for the bigger jobs. I bought mine 4 years ago with 127k miles on it. Currently at trouble free 188k miles with basic maintenance. Only repair has been the timing cover oil leak that I paid a mechanic to tackle. Otherwise, typical maintenance: fluid changes, brake pads, and tire rotations. I have purchased two sets of tires: summer tires are 18" General Grabber ATX on Land Cruiser wheels and winter tires are 18" Bridgestone Blizzak DMV2 on Tundra wheels. They replace the small sidewall 20" OE wheels. Knowing rust is one of the few things that will kill these rigs, part of my maintenance routine is undercarriage cleaning and coating. Last weekend I applied new to me fluid film (Blaster Surface Shield). Time will tell how it survives winter schmootz. Small upgrades include LED headlamp and fog lamp bulbs along with proper skid plates to replace the rusty OE ones. Husky floor mats keep the interior tidy.

Definitely test drive one before buying, along with a pre-purchase inspection depending on your comfort level and aptitude. These are heavy rigs - about 600-700 lbs heavier than a similarly sized Tahoe or Expedition. They're not going to handle the pavement as well as your RX, but it is a 3-ton body-on-frame tank. Even with nearly 200k miles, mine is still rock solid feeling. Taller (33") all terrain summer tires means I won't be canyon carving because there is notable pitch and roll in the handling. But like many, I have another vehicle for the sporty driving. 15 mpg overall in mixed city/highway driving under my ownership.

All the above, and I can go climb a mountain with ease in absolute comfort like few other rigs can.

I don't regret buying my LX one iota.
Nice truck. Looks like you may be sitting on stock AHC with 20" wheels, if so - mind sharing your tire specs? I just bought a 2015 and love that look, want to keep AHC stock for the ride quality during daily driving.

Here here! Another Volvo estate owner here. Love the V90. T6 and Polestar engineered. Sleeps next to the 200 every night.

To the OP…you are not crazy. The LC/LX are in a class of their own. Having said that, I have a 2016 F150 with the 2.7 Ecoboost. Pushing 200k miles. It’s our camping rig with a Go Fast Camper. I’ve had a few issues here and there but it’s been solid.

That being said, we just had to put a new (used) engine in our Land Cruiser. Had a valve spring failure and carnage ensued. They’re mechanical. They’re not without their own set of know issues. Do your research. This is an amazing forum with some great folks. Lots and lots of great information on here.

These posts have really been amazing. Thank you all! I think I really need to go test drive a few. I’m still leaning LX over F150 at the moment but I used to rush into buying things in the past and as a homeowner now I realized taking my time, sleeping on it multiple times helps me make better decisions.

996 > 997

f150 > lx

thats homeowner math

I had a gen 1 3.5L ecoboost before my 200. It was a great truck up until it wasn’t. The DI only engines are hard on oil and tbf, I was hard on the truck too. I heard the tell tale rattle of timing chain stretch at around 120k and knew it was time for a new vehicle. I used and loved that truck. Up until I knew I couldn’t trust its reliability. I now use a trailer for the stuff I would’ve put in the bed of my fORd.

My vote is make the switch to a well maintained LX. You are definitely on the nose with the comment of your current truck not lasting another 10 years.

If your family hauling needs for the type of trips you do are taken care of by the RX350, just use the RX350. They are solid and frankly more practical than a BOF SUV for the more common use cases. Keep the truck, drive it and fix what needs to be repaired. Save your money (mod the Porsche instead).

Am I crazy thinking a 13-15 LX570 with about 100k miles is good deal?

Just because it's a good vehicle doesn't mean it will be a good deal.

Interesting comment, but sorry dude (do you identify as him/her?)…I don’t play for your team. I am married to a wonderful woman. I am sure that there is some club that you can go to with your LX…will fit right in.
