I had a talk to the driver of the khaki coloured Iveco dual cab 4x4 the other day.

Its been on sale for quite a while in other countries ,but these are being prepared especially for australia to sell to the mining companies(and anyone else who wants one).
Its quite impressive with its 170hp 3 litre twin turbo engine. Its also triple locked as standard. The front and rear difflock is an electrically operated cable locker. It has solid axles front and rear and is SOA and comes in 2 optional wheel diameters.
It has a 6 sp and with the reduction gearbox, I think he said you can get 24 forward gears.
On sale soon for $88k ,which is not bad as thats about what a 78/79 series will cost if you add all the options, and its quite larger than a 70 series in height, more like a Canter size.

Yes I took some pics, but for some reason they didnt come out right: (

sorry, those pics turn me off it.
pass
some of these pics are better idea. it is the front clip that is ... well ... ugly.

To tall for the average work ute,
But the rest of it , super cool

One day someone will put a 79 series body on one.

Actually one day someone will put a 45 series body on one.

I can see them being big sellers in the open cut mines where room is not an issue.
They are tall though, must be close to 2.7m
Another thing I liked about them is that they have an adjustable air ride seat

Urgg, ivecos. Biggest buckets of sh*t I've ever had the misfortune of working on. Dailys, accos, eurocargos, there all garbage

look like they could be a good option although as said, there tall. Id say too tall for underground. Would tear the sh*t out of vent bag.

How come they are one of the big sellers? Those Dailys really hold their value.

Theyre big sellers because they're cheaper than a proper truck like an isuzu and they're more car like to drive. I guess they might be on the better end of the van/small truck segment compared to merc sprinters and the rest, but that's not saying much.
Good luck if you ever have to do any major work on them. The whole front panel work has to come off to get access to the engine if you were to say do a head gasket.
Theres a lot of electronics controlling things as well, like the a/c for example.

It is saying a lot when you have to sit in the thing for 8-10 hours a day. Comfort and car like manners relieves driver stress.
I could not drive a 75 series in traffic day after day.

Electronics and difficult access became the norm years ago,its why many of us like early 7* series.
They will either live or die by their reputation for reliability off road.I think the driver of the evaluation vehicle said they had spent 10 years bringing this up to scratch for australian use.

Yeah I guess, but I can't see them lasting in the mines. Their reliability isn't to bad if they're only driven around town
