the what is it worth thread!

As many of you know I am getting ready to unload my FJ62 on ebay . Many of you have seen it numerous times on trips and meetings, I guess I am just looking for some opinions on what you guys feel it might be worth..... I have a number in my mind but who knows.

I have spent a decent amount of time the last few weeks bringing the ole girl back up to speed all the issues have been addressed and she is in the best condition since I bought it

stats:
1988 FJ62
201, 000 miles on original drivetrain; doesn't burn oil and the t-case has been rebuilt
ARB front bumper w/ Warn 8274 150' of cable
Slee Sliders
Mark Whately cutsom rear bumper dual swing out and roof rack w/ ladder
37" MTRs 75% tread
Lockright in the rear
one primo sound system
Interior is in great shape exterior a few dings and pin stripes

those are the basics and I realize this is a highly subjective issue but please offer your opinions

Seriously though, if you put lots of detailed pictures along with a thorough description / history / notes, etc. I wouldn't be surprised to see you get bids pushing $10K, maybe more.

As you said, it is pretty subjective but your 62 is a "one of a kind" in many ways and that typically drives the price higher.

......... if there is one thing I learned in architecture it is that PRESENTATION is everything; I will be taking her on a very flattering photo shoot early next week

if I can get into the 10K area I would be very pleased; I hate even posting a thread like this but I dont really have a grasp on pricing FJ62s it'd be different if it was a FJ40

I've been looking at 60's and 62's recently and think that is a decent price for your rig. There's one on Mud in Texas and they're asking $8000, but it's not as built as yours, so I think you could ask $10 and probably get $9-9500 easy.

I love the old 62 we have had some good trips in it, and I hope you get 10k but I dont believe I would pay that for it. My built 62 pricing is even worse than yours though I'm sure. I think getting 8-8500 would be good but you never know how bidding on ebay by people that dont know that much will end up you could end up getting a lot. I tell you this though your rig is a lot better than that guy John that came out a few times and he wanted like 12k for his.

Thanks for all the input guys...... I have to be honest I wasn't as generous in my own estimate; glad to hear you guys think it could go in the 9-10k I'd be a very happy man to get that. If it goes for what you guys are saying I won't lose near as much money on this one as I did my FJ40

Well, as with all things, your 62 is worth what someone is willing to pay. I really think you'll be surprised but who knows...

As a comparison, here is a recent, real world example from mud. Not a true apples to apples comparison in terms of mods and equipment but enough to get a feel for the Mud market, which, as you know, is nothing like the eBay market:

I remember seeing a blue FJ62 set up like yours for sale on Mud in Columbia. I think it sold for $5,000-$6,500. He started at around $9,000. I wish I could find the link. It wasn't SOA though. It had a brand new OME 4" lift with a new winch, rear bumber from Slee and a roof rack. No sliders though. Ebay may fetch more, but the mud crowd will probably keep it around $6000. Were a bunch of cheap bastids.

that FJ62 belonged to John a former member of our club, I was surprised for how little it went for...... I hope I can get more than 6K

John's 62 was def. a nice one, I had a chance to see it in person. He actually started with a $14,000 number and steadily went down from there:

His final posted price was $7500 with the winch which is a long way from $14K. I don't know what it sold for.

I'd say the biggest difference between his situation and JP's is that he had to sell quickly given his circumstances (obviously benefits the buyer) while JP can take his time and wait for the right transaction.

Very true, JP's rig is a much better rig though IMO I saw Johns in person several times and it was nice but you could have gotten a 62 for like 2k on ebay and made Johns rig for another 2k. I would say it would take a lot more than that to do the same things that JP's has done to it.

Yeah, I wasn't really comparing their rigs, just their situations in the sale and how having to sell in a hurry obviously puts the seller at a disadvantage...

I was trying to look for his ad. I thought it was a little sketch of how he had to sell it but I guess thats how it is when you are still with the parents.

My advice, get it cleaned up and everythign functioning right then price it out. I have no clue anymore. You see some that look like a sweet deal for $5K then you see others that look similar, but clean(or really well detailed) and they are asking $10-15K!

I think a really detailed rig with everythign fixed and working correctly will bring alot more. Wiring cleaned up etc would be a nice + too.

I really hate to see it go. It has been a motivation for mine at times. I just need to get things finished that were started. For you at least you dont have the family to worry about yet. Thats when it gets interesting with buying and selling stuff.
