do it!

I had a work assignment in NC this summer, and took the family. We road-tripped back to CA afterwards, kids all agreed it was one of the best things they'd ever done. It cost $ for sure, but it's only $. Spending it developed memories and experiences that will stay with them the rest of their lives. What better use does $ have?

Congrats on your purchase, you're a lucky man to have Joey looking after it for you.

You guys are giving me way too much credit.

I left the doors unlocked. I'm pretty sure the inside of the truck was used for a homeless orgy by now.

Based on what the seats look like it must have been by a pack of homeless Pumas!

Yeah, I did. I laughed my ass off. I think Joey was going to go take a look at it and check it out. Not sure if he ever made it there.

Immediate plans are to handle all of the maintenance and nit picky stuff.

Visors
Seat belts
Knuckles (passenger side birf is clicking)
Run through the lockers and clean them out to make sure they work properly
New battery
Pull the dent out of the rear quarter
Seat covers
Pull the running boards off
Change fluids
Belts
Hoses
PHH
Identify the oil leak. Doesn't seem like a big leak and probably won't mess with it but will find out where it is
Plugs
Cap
Rotor
Wires
PCV

Not sure what the long term plans are yet. Still trying to figure that out. It will be daily driven, thats for sure.

Forgot transmission to transfer case seal has a leak. Replace seal.
Check out diffs and work them to make sure they are functioning properly. Replace grease (not sure what exactly to do here, will have to research more).

I shall make no mention of the bumper sticker. Last time I posted a picture of a democrat politician a moderator deleted my post. Let's see if it gets deleted this time.

I already talked to my buddy about the dent in the rear quarter. He says it will be no problem to pull out.

I'm seriously considering flying out and driving it back to Iowa. Via Death Valley and Moab.

It would be a crap ton of fun.

Joey, you up for an epic day of getting it 1800 mile trip road worthy? Turn on the TEQ signal in the sky and get @Qball and @Dragos80 and some others to give her the twice over before heading out?

Or am I just plain crazy for even thinking about it?

Both!!!!!! Don't have to take the hard trails, there are plenty easy trails for great scenery. I'm watching desertUSA wild flower update and it's gonna be EPIC and must not be missed this year!!!!!!!!!

And after 310k it's pretty well broken in and tested, just need to do the basic stuff and she is ready for the long journey. Trust me, the CA freeway traffic is pretty hard on any car in the summer so she is in great condition. Plus we don't have rust to hold things together if something does break.

This looks pretty friggin' clean to me. Just enough leaks to keep things from getting crusty. You seem to have some extra stuff on the right side of the motor that I don't have on my 97. Something called a "pair valve" or some such nonsense. Not sure about that.

In any case, it looks like she will clean up nicely. Knuckles are leaking past the felt seals so at least you know there's grease in there. May want to do the knuckles before hitting the road, assuming the rest of the systems are OK.

I highly recommend the road trip. We had to plan our trip back around winter storms in Feb so some sights were bypassed and/or cut short, but we had a blast and ate very well.

Custom made bumper, that's how.

It will be getting the full treatment from Trail Tailor aka @reevesci aka Jason. Front and rear bumpers. Sliders. Roof rack.

But that will be after the maintenance stuff is taken care of.

The bumper corners will come off right away. The dent on the quarter panel above the taillight.
