As you all know, the Cado took a tree in the tornado a month back.

Well, the house is well enough repaired to start looking into what I can do to get back on the trail.

I have decided to remove the roof and have a cage built.

I will be cutting the weekend of the 18th.

If you want to come and help gut the truck and remove the top, let me know!

Dan-Don't think we have ever met but know many of the same people. IF I am in town that weekend I'll be happy to cut up a truck. I have a gotten fairly good at it.

Dan - are you goin to start a build thread? Got any ideas on how it's gonna look like w/ the new cage? You cutting right behind the windshield frame area or gonna save any part of the roof? How bout the doors - cuting the windows tops out or tube? We need a photochop of your vision for this build :bounce2: I'm not sure if I want to do something like you're doin to an 80 or build up my '78 40 for my next project :meh:

I dont really digitally visualize, but I have some ideas :)

- Cut at the front edge of the sunroof
- Cut at the tops of the doors...all of them and removing the glass and mechanism
- Cut every pillar out all the way back...think one big cabless pickup
- Stripping all carpet out and re-using the leather seats, center console may go Tuffy (why not!?)
- Line-x the entire inside with the guts out, but with the tool box in (line-x it in place)
- Reinstall all I can to maintain the coosh
- Cage will be hooped over driver, rear seats, tied into front dash to frame, sides to frame, triangulated
- Cage will taper to just about the rear corner body lines and then straight down.
- No bobbing at this time...too much time
- Custom soft top with zip/roll side windows (top will have a tornado graphic)

That's farther up than I thought you'd go. But is sounds cool! Like an old scout kinda, but with avocado skin, huge tires, a roll bar, and a canvas cover. OK, so not at all like a Scout, except for where you are cutting it.

Dan - do you remember seeing Josh Baker's orange caged FJ62 at Tellico during GSMTR '07? Here's a link:
JK Custom Off Road Accessories for your Rig
That's what I've been thinkin your rig could transform into, less the upgraded axles, tires & wheelbase of course :D

Jason does great work (JKCustom) and Iam sure he has already done work on the Avocado, it used to belong to a member of our local LSLC club.

Hey Dan, maybe it can make it's first apperance at the Crawl!

Later,

Ok, so I do have the roof off...it went perfectly.

I need to gut the interior to get rid of the mold and such, then prep for liner.

I am having issues with time right now since I have a whole house, a yard, work, kids, etc to juggle and being a single dad it makes it fun.

BUT!! I think I will have about $2000 to throw at the truck in the next month. I need help though...

And yes Chuck, I do know JK Customs...they built the hoop on the front bumper for the PO...I am not going that far by any means. I am just going to tuck a cage in as is, clean up the sheet metal, get a soft top, and get back out there.

Dan try to put some kind of schedule together, I wanna help!
