I guess God was looking for a few good dogs these past few weeks. While traveling out West with us, Leukemia-Bone Marrow Cancer -Liver failure struck down one tough Wolf pup! Bruno was my PTSD therapist and our Marriage counselor. Totally unexpected. He was only 4.5 years old and one of the healthiest Bulldogs our vet had ever seen. We truely thought he was just homesick after 2 months on the road, then we thought maybe he got a hold of some bad water we knew something wasn't right, but he couldn't tell us what.
He stopped eating, had an increased thirst, and we noticed his urine was very dark. That's when we took him to the emergency Vet outside Glacier NP.
He strolled in there like he owned the place, and we joked with the staff how they had already cured him without even examining him.
After xrays and several tests they called us into a private room to tell us how sick he was. His white blood cell count was almost off the scale. They gave him a shot for nausea and a few other prescriptions and told us to get back to NC a.s.a.p.!
I drove like I was back in the Firewagon, the only thing different was I didn't have any lights, sirens, or a badge anymore! Nurse Lucy rode in the back seat with him to give him comfort. Somewhere in Kansas early last Monday we got a hold of our vet back here in Davidson County, he read the reports and suggested we seek IV fluids for our little buddy. We told him our location , driving East on Interstate 40 in nowhere Kansas. While we were still on the phone with him I asked if he thought a Veterinary School was an option? Bingo--- Kansas State University in Manhattan Kansas was 1 hour away.
We called ahead and they were waiting for us with a team of specialists. Bruno spent the night and we met with a Cancer specialist the next morning. The tests told an even grimmer story. Decisions had to be made and it was not easy but in the five short days since he was first seen he could barely hold up his head--- Yes Cancer sucks even in dogs.
Let's just say the rest of the drive home sucked too!
Godspeed Bruno--- from one dog to another!!
Hope he's in the best home ever.
Sorry for your loss. Still getting use to Maggie being gone.

Sorry to hear about your pup Eric. It's sad, I had a nightmare about my dogs shortly after hearing about Brodi - that empty, sick feeling was with me for the whole day. I sympathize deeply with your situation.

Thanks, we're feeling your pain, Its tough. And our heart goes out to Jason also.
Hope they are all sitting around a good campfire somewhere.

At least he made it to Moab twice! That's more than most people can say!

Dang it. I'm really sorry @HENDOG . That really sucks. This has truly been a crappy last few months for ONSC's 4-legged crew. I hope the trend stops ASAP!!

He was a great co-driver .

I guess it's a wonder he made it that long considering who his owner was! Lol
In this picture he was saying are you kidding me again!!! I'm outta here!!!

He was cooler than any cruiser, and more fun!

So sorry Hendog. Looks like Bruno was an awesome furbuddy. Apologies I somehow missed your post from the previous page when I was just realizing the sad news about Eric's pup. Tough time for ONSC dogs for sure, I'll love on mine extra tonight no doubt.

Sorry to hear Hendog, great photos of him. They pass through our lives and we are better because of it. They are all in some dog park somewhere in the cosmos smoking cigars and drinking whiskey, yeah dogs can do that in doggy heaven!

sorry for your loss Hendog.

Very, very sorry about your losses, @HENDOG and @forrest5000. All of our furbuddies deserve the best life, and yours seem to have lived it.

Our Jacob is having his final treatment for cancer in the next few days. :( He's doing well, but once treatment ends there's just nothing more to do other than treasure and enjoy every day....

Sorry Eric and Henry. The dogs have a way of becoming like chldren in our lives and they fun and companionship is without measure. No wonder it hurts so much when they cross the rainbow bridge. Can't find the words, please know I feel your pain as we all do.

Eric and Henry, Im sorry to hear of your losses. Tough spell for our crew for sure but i imagine they are all running free together somewhere. I did not get to meet Maggie but Bruno was a lump of special and certainly looks to have had an awesome life of epic travels and land cruiser shenanigans.

Meet Ritzy. Ritzy is a rescue. A friend contacted me and told me a dog had been thrown out of a truck Robeson county. She had spent 3 days waiting in a ditch and rain for the SOB that dumped her to return. My friends and the guy living in the closest house had tried to catch her but no success. So my wife and I drove down and spent the next 2 1/2 hours coaxing this wet dirty little girl using pork chops and Ritz crackers. Finally I was able to get my hands on her and get her into my truck. Pork Chop was not a fitting name for such a delicate girl so Ritzy it was. Took her to the vet the next day. All clear except for tenderness along her left side. Vet surmised someone either kicked her or hit her with something. She has been with us almost 7 months now. She has come out of her shell. She is still a little afraid of loud noises. We can't imagine why someone would dump her. She was crate trained and house broken when we brought her home. Sweet loving dog and believe it or not she now loves to ride.

Way to go on the rescue..... looks like you have a friend for life there.

Funny how life works but theres an unplanned fuzzy new addition in the house after having to move my father into assisted living. Some of you have met Katie at the meet n greet and/or cookout at my place a few years back.

A mini aussie doodle and still a ball of energy at 10yrs old. A couple rare non blurred shots. Slowly adjusting to life on the farm and seems to be digging it.

Our Pudelpointer pup, Abe, isn't looking much like a puppy anymore. He's doing really well in his field training, and is a really cool dude. He and Cosmo are peas in a pod.
