Here's one for the N74L skeptics.

Imogene Pass Colorado

Mountain biked over Imogene about 20-years ago...neat area (at least two decades ago!).

Looks great John,

I'm heading to Ouray later this month. Was black bear open when you went, i've heard it's gnarly? I was looking though your pics and I could'nt tell if you came all the way down switchbacks...

I'm planning on hitting Yankee Boy, Imogene, Engineer and Ophir

BBPass was not open until a week later. We drove it from the bottom up until it was closed. I don't know if I'll do BBP again after my first experience.

After all my trips up there I have never done UPPER Yankee BB and/or Governor Basin until now. Those are must-do's in my opinion. Instead of doing YBB then Imogen then Ophir, I will from now on do:

YBB (incl upper)
Governor Basin (to the end)
Imogene
And return to Ouray via Lost Dollar Road (sweet scenery!) and Ridgeway

HAVE FUN UP THERE. If ANY way possible get with another truck and do Pooughkeepsie Gulch. There's nothing better!

I didn't know you were that old. :D

Hey...watch it...I started early!

I did a very cool and scenic mountain bike self-contained ride a number of years ago: Started in Lake City...up and over Engineer's Pass (13,300')...down to Ouray...then up to Silverton...then up and over Cinnamon Pass (12,800' ?) back down to Lake City. It is a 4x4 route...I'd love to go back some day and do it in the LC. Have you been on this route?

That's the famous Alpine Loop. Here's my 2007 trip:

Here's a poser 100 pic from that route to add to the thread:

Off to Ouray in the AM. Everything is open but Pooughkeepsie Gulch. Did BBP last year (2006) the 1st day it opened in a 100% stock 100 series with no problem. BBP is nothing like it was 15 years ago when it had a large pucker factor.

What in the world was up with this 150? Did he stall, run out of gas, or simply did not manage the hairpin turn and did a 180 going down?

Apart from that, VERY cool pictures from a BEAUTIFUL area (and a nice collection on smugmug). Here in the PNW, there are few (if any) places where you actually easiliy get above the tree line, less even close to 10,000 feet and above.
Reminds me a lot of Norway where you can get this at about 3,000 feet and above.

I am sooooo jealous - we just don't have those kind of off-roading options here on the Atlantic coast!

He botched the turn and went too wide when approaching the turn. Having no traction device he got stuck. Good thing there was snowpack there. He was at the road's edge with a long way down.
