Worst of the Land Cruiser community or just humanity in general? Is that Stonehenge replica along the Columbia River? Ive heard about it and always wanted to check it out but im always out that way for work and never have time.
Well, it was a 100 series owner with a modded rig. I stumbled across him at our campground so I approached him (as I was driving past) because I thought he looked like a familiar member on here and I just simply asked if he was a member on the MUD forum. His response was extremely toney and rude like he didn’t have the time of day for me.
I was about to say it was a great looking rig but he turned his back and walked off. In general, I usually don’t approach people with modded rigs because of scenarios like this that play out in my head so I guess it just goes to reaffirm my rationale for not. I wasn’t trying to start a conversation with the guy and take him away from his time out, just was caught in passing while in a great mood haha.

But yes, this is the Stonehenge replica. We’ve been wanting to see it for years and it was only a short drive out of the way on the way to Baker City from The Dalles. We got there later in the day just before sunset so there was almost nobody there and the sunset was just plan beautiful. There’s no gate, so it appears to be open access 24/7.

There is always one...but I think most of us love to talk about our rigs and experiences.

What a bummer, maybe the guy was just having a bad day to begin with. I've found most Land Cruiser people are more than happy to talk about their rigs when I come across them in the wild. I live in the greater Seattle area, feel free to flag me down if you ever see me out in the NW.

Yeah, that’s totally true. I know he doesn’t represent the LC community as a whole. I usually wave when I see other 100s but I’m not a big extrovert social butterfly so it sucks to put yourself out there when you’re comfortable enough just to get shot down. Is what it is tho! :)

That's HIS misfortune. Usually the more rare the vehicle the more talkative, outgoing, and protective the owners are toward each other. I've heard reports of this with Sequoia and 4Runner owners. There are so many that do not venture outside of the dealership for any services or discussion and think the idea of a vehicle based community is weird.

Long time reader, first time poster. Here's my 280k mile, 2000 stock base model. Relatively New to me but loved dearly already, both the girl and m'lady :)
Both been thru some s*** but ready for living the good life. Getting ready for our first trip from the Ozarks out to Colorado mid Sept.

Cheers,
J

Had an awesome extended weekend exploring the more rural and historic parts of Oregon. Saw a ton of sweet local 80 and 100 series rigs but also unfortunately ran into the worst of the community 🤷🏼‍♂️

I was in the Baker and Sumpter area with my family and our 100 last weekend. Too bad we didn't run into each other. I would have been happy to talk Cruisers with you.

No way, how did you like it?! I didn’t see any other cruisers besides an 80. We were camped out at Phillips Lake and basically spent the whole weekend driving between Phillips and Baker City / Sumpter for food and drinks.

I've been going camping to the Sumpter area nearly all my life. Usually at least once a year. Its pretty fun. The vibe in that area is not quite like it used to be but It's only about an hour and a half from where I live. We used to camp near Philips lake but now we usually go to McCulley Fork CG. More shade and usually a little quieter. That town way below us in the picture is Baker. Dropped off the hill and stopped at Barley Browns for dinner before heading home.

We actually ran into the ugly side of outdoorsy folks last weekend too.

We stopped at what used to be Deer Creek CG for our lunch and to play in the creek. There was a fella there who grumped at us for being in "his" camp spot, so we moved on up the creek. Just not worth getting into an altercation over a spot by the creek. We didn't realize it was all his stuff until later but had 2 tents, a truck, a 4wheeler, coolers and lawn chairs spread out over at least 2 acres. When we drove by later in the day he had parked his truck crossways of the road blocking anybody else from accessing the back end of the old camp ground. Not a Toyota guy at least though. It was a Dodge. Not at all surprised by that.

This is our first time out to Baker City area, actually second time in a month, and we enjoyed it but it was a good 5 hour drive to get there. Based on our geography in Oregon, I think we would prefer to go to Sisters, OR (2 hour drive), but still a fun town to visit.
I'll have to check that area out. Have you by chance been out to Bourne? We checked it out on the way home and it wasn't quite what I was expecting for an "abandoned ghost town".

Man, I have come across people like that as well. I'm actually not surprised to hear you say that. The campground we stayed at in Phillips seemed to be full of the "the ugly side" of outdoorsy folks. The folks in the campground next to us deliberately parked their vehicles in a way to block parking spots and actually set out a table across the parking area to "save" spots for their friends that were coming in a whole day later. We confronted them about it, and they claimed they didn't know the people with the truck blocking spots, which was a massive lie. In the end, it was what it was. We weren't hanging out at the camp site, we came to that area to explore the town. Staying at the campground was just our attempt at cheap lodging. We don't normally do "established camping", but we wanted the convenience of the washing facilities / bathrooms.
