I could use some help / advise selling some long gun and one pistol. I had a Vietnam veteran friend who died back in the fall of 2017. His 4th wife is the executor of his estate and asked me if I would collect the guns and help sell them. I now have the guns and have sold a few but still have a bunch of odd ball rifles and shotguns to get sold.

Where can I get the best money for her. It is the only inheritance that his two daughters will be getting.

Definitely don't take them to a gun shop. You'd be lucky to get half their value. Maybe post what you have here, armslist or Carolina shooters forum. Those are the ones I check when I am shopping for something. Hope it helps.

Good on you for helping the family. I've lost count on how many families I've helped find new owners for their hobby stuff. one case it took years to move everything.

Armslist is like the Craigslist for guns. I have had good luck using it, tho (better than Clist).

Looking for options for a semi pistol, 9mm, 40, or 45. for concealed purposes, camping protection, or around the house.

45 can be tough for concealed but my tiny hands love the HK .45 usp compact i picked up years ago.

For small and slim i like my sig p238 (.380) but the 938, its 9mm counterpart is almost identical. There were some early model issues with failure to load last round in the mag which have been resolved from what ive heard. It is a 1911 style that some love or hate; personally im fine with it.

Your welcome to come plink a few rounds off with each up at my place of you like.

I thought the 229 was more midsize? I got a Stacy the P938 last year and it's just like the 238 but in 9mm.

The S&W shield is another solid offering in 9mm for the compact size.

The gun I carry daily is the glock 19.

With all that said your best bet is to have a shooting session where you can try a few and see what "fits" you best. Some of us are gonna try for a little range time Saturday afternoon at the M&G as well and I can bring a few to try.

What he said.

Bersa .380 Thunder Plus. Small and slim and fits well in my hand.

@erymer you are correct.... 938 is what i meant and edited to show so.
229 is on my lust list and it sneaked its way in there somehow ;)

Fit and comfort as well as ability to use each function seamlessly without hand reposition was key for me.

agreed....boooo. But if you do decide to head up to J's, let me know and we can bring a few of ours for you to test as well.

It's the power of suggestion sneaking in there. lol

YES! I've learned so much from shooting sessions like this. I now know that I hate revolvers, I'm sloppy with the G19, the Sig P320 is my dream gun, I need more practice with 1911's, with practice my Shield has become a range gun, and the Sig P229 Legion is nice but IMO not worth the coin.

Steve, also consider Calibers indoor range at w. market and Friendly. They rent all kinds of guns and you are charged $6 for each gun you take into the range AT A TIME..... So when I was shopping I went and paid $12 bucks and took two into the range but could come out and swap for a different model at no extra cost so long as it was just two at a time that I had on range. It really helped me seal the decision of Sig 220 or HK 45 USP -C . Manny the owner is a pretty nice dude as well.

Good call and IIRC it's $10 for a nonmember to shoot and it actually covers a two day pass. I "think" you have to buy their targets but they are only like $1 a piece. I used to go over there on my lunch break to get in some practice. I need to start that up again.

My daily carry is a Sig 238. Been eyeing a 938. Shoot a range and then decide. My personal $0.02, I stay away from the composites like the LCP, bodyguard, etc. Don't get me wrong, they do the job, but are dreadful to shoot. Just no weight. I like the sig because its all metal and shoots like a larger frame gun. The new Kimber .380 is similar, both are basically colt mustang repops. For a pocket pistol, keltec .32 isn't bad (it is a composite, but is small enough to be reasonably handled). My wife carries one as her daily. Whatever it is, make sure you like shooting it. I mean having one is better than not if you need it, but if you dont enjoy shooting it, then you won't put in the range time with it to become proficient with it.

Also, Think about where you go, what you wear and how a CCW will fit in. I am typically in dress casual, so I need a pocket pistol or something I can tuck IWB. If you are more casual and go untucked, the you can stand a little larger frame, or if you open carry, well then its players choice. Thru the week its 238 IWB tucked, weekends around the farm its a full size 1911 open. So 2 things to consider: weapon comfort and how you will carry.

Good luck

I carry a sccy cpx1 daily. it's a decent $250 pistol made in America with a lifetime warranty. 10+ one . The finger grips don't fit my hands perfectly but work

Mouse Guns -- My latest favorite sector of weaponry
Having acquired an apparently vicious and dangerous canine companion I have scaled back my carry to minimal. About the only gun I should ever need now is to kill the perp if he's armed and about to shoot my dog, Zorro would handle the rest.
I had several sub 9mm pistols in my early days of CC, KelTecs mostly.
The Sig P238 when it launched was the first 380 that ever shot straight for me. My hand naturally aims better with the 1911 ergonomics and thus does the P238 which is schematically based on the Colt Mustang which was a 380cal 1911.
While I was on extended ops in the Med my baby daughter stole my sig so when I got home with my new canine protection i needed a replacement. I ended up with two I like here's what and why.
A Ruger LCP. I had had a KelTec 32 which was ragged hard not to limpwrist and a KT9 which was too snappy for snap shooting accuracy. Ruger quality manufacturing cleaned up the rough edges of the KelTec design and in 380 caliber with the steel slide it shoots quite level.
A Beretta Tomcat. This may be a surprise but for a basic backup weapon I love it. Beretta 3032 is an old design 32 with a tip up barrel. Very small and slim yet fires quite accurate and fast for a mouse gun. You'd have to shoot it to feel how natural it works. Also very pocketable with the slim front end. And no 'rack the slide' to arm. Pop a cartridge in the barrel snap it shut, slide safety at thumb, double action hammer. all steel heavy but tiny.

32 vs 380 vs 9mm
to me the only thing a 9 is good for is a service pistol with massive capacity. With a mouse gun barrel a 9 doesn't give much more pop than a good 380 SD round and 32 isn't far behind. For anything beyond spitting range IMO if I'm going larger than 380 I"m going to 357 or 40 without ever even looking over as I pass 38 and 9mm. Just my opinion YMMV
