Gattis, Swank Win ACC Weekly Honors

Deacons earn defensive back, specialist awards

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Wake Forest senior safety Josh Gattis and sophomore punter and placekicker Sam Swank were selected as the ACC's Defensive Back and Specialist of the week, respectively, the league announced on Monday.  

Swank becomes the first player in conference history to win the ACC's Specialist of the Week award three weeks in a row.

The Demon Deacons defeated NC State on Saturday, 25-23, to jump into the Associated Press top 25.

Don't I know it. More like one "lousy" quarter. ;)

Oh well, you won't see me complaining. You guys deservedly got the W that weekend, I am just glad we moved on without packing it in for the season like we've sometimes done in the past. The State game was a good sign for the rest of our season.

Changing to pro for a moment..... My beloved Chicago Bears have pulled one out of the hat tonight. Devon Hestor, Ex-Cane, runs one back 82 yds. for a TD. Then a last minute wide left by AZ for the win, ala FSU.

Helluva comeback right there. I couldn't believe they pulled it off - especially considering how poorly Grossman played. Any team that has their starting QB commit 6 turnovers is lucky to win no matter what.

I kept nodding off but made myself stay awake to see if they could pull it off...

Urlacher is a stud and is the single reason they won that game and are still undefeated. :cheers:

Yep, you're right about that. I kind of felt bad for that kid though; especially after Kornheiser said Monday was his typical "date night" with his new wife since Arizona never had Monday night games (read: they are that bad).

I can't remember the last time I've seen 1 player just will the game to victory though like Urlacher did last night. He's always been one of my favorite players all the way back to his U of NM days.
 
Larry Coker emailed me today.

Got an email today from the Canes' Coach. Hoping it was for a coaching position (yeah, right!), but it was an apology for the fiasco the other night. Also got one the day before from the U prez, Donna Shalala.

I think last night made it clear who the best team in the ACC really is. Hope everyone not in Cullowhee watc hed gameday and saw my ugly mug since I was on it several times. Most impressive team of the day yesterday? Kirk Herbstriet says Clemson Tigers. Most impressive player of the day yesterday? Kirk Herbstreit says James Davis and CJ Spiller. Best matchup next weekend? Kirk Herbstreit says Dont overlook thursday night Clemson @ VT it will be a difficult challenege for VT to try and stop the Clemson running attack. Damn it was a good weekend. :beer:

reward they get the Vols at Willie Brice next Saturday. :eek:

SC and TN should be a good game-in the first half anyway-TN will wear them down
Clemson looked awesome and should smoke VT who I really don't like anyway
Florida is going to destroy Georgia
Florida State-wow when was the last time they lost 3 conference games in one season-the ACC is a vastly improving football conference
Miami-who gives a rip
Auburn-played a nobody and won but gave up a ton of yards-wasn't a great win but we'll take it, somehow got jumped in the BCS by West Virginia
