I went back today and finished my floor pan wire wheeling and painting.

Then sprayed some more Fluid Film. Then I decided it would be a good idea to go blow up a birf on my 60 and spend the next 2.5 replacing that. Pretty good Sunday overall.

A 60 birfield is pretty tough, must of been a good trail.
Nope, tree stump. I have a lockrite in the front of my 60 and I’m learning why people hate them.

Congrats on the Pig @cruiserinsanity following your progress for sure. I thought that was @Godwin 80, sounds like you boys had fun getting it home

700 mile round trip swing through AL and MS this weekend to pick up parts for this The Dirty Pig From Paris - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/the-dirty-pig-from-paris.1376846/

First stop was in south MS at an undisclosed location to load up with Pig parts. Seats, radiator, NOS windshield, and a couple or three tubs of loose parts. From there we drove north to the Tilda Bogue Pick 'N Pull. Got in before dark but not by much. Hung out with Grogan for an hour or so and looked for parts. He has a couple of nice Saudi Cruisers, an 80 with a diesel and 100, both have manual 5 speeds, and low mileagen and both are for sale. We camped at the shop, had to take cover about 0400 when a storm rolled through. Next morning loaded a 2F, a set of Saudi split rims, and a whole metric butt load of other parts for the pig. My son @cruiserinsanity is building this Pig.

@Godwin and I made a run to Mississippi to see @USMC22 to get the rest of the Pig parts then up to @wngrog to get a 2F and some other small stuff for the Pig.

I have almost all the pieces to put the Pig back together again. I’ll be going to Arkansas to get an H42 soon and I need to track down a passenger rear window.

Random thoughts of the Pig while I'm still in the parts acquisition and planning phase.

Axles

I'm going to run a '85-'87 H42 with a spacer so that I can drop in an H55F in a few years, this will also eliminate the Transfer case E-brake.

I have a 60 rear housing that came with the Pig that's already had the perches modified to work. That will widen the rear, but I'll have to widen the front to match. I have a Disc brake 40 axle that I can swap in and do the Tundra brake mod on with IFS hubs to widen it.

I also have a 60 front axle from @Godwin red 60 I could use, but I can't find a lot of information about what needs to be cut and welded to make it work. My loose understanding is that it's more than just spring perches.

So my options are;

Disc Brake 40 Front Axle With Tundra Brake Mod, 60 Rear Axle.

60 Front Axle 60 Rear.

Disc Brake 40 Axle With Factory Rear and find a way to put the E-brake on the rear and leave it narrow.

The wider stance of 60 series stuff will help for stability when wheeling, but I still want the wheels under the truck. I also really want to run skinny 33" tires and Hubcaps, and with the Tundra stuff I'll have to use 16" or 17" steelies and add hubcap clips.

Any thoughts or insight?

I did 60 axles front/rear. The front is a bunch of work because you need to outboard the spring hangers on the frame…see my build for pics/details.

Another option is to add parking brake drums from a 60 series with the FJCO adapters to your 40/55 axle

See this thread

One of the top-tier builds in the forum, @scrapdaddy ‘s “Mud Hen”, included 60 series axles front and rear. The rear was quickly replaced with a custom built housing.

@nvrlose54 also did, and retained a very stockish appearance.

60 series axles are 70mm wider than 40/55 axles

The practicality of undergoing that conversion on a stock rig with the OEM engine and a maximum of 3” lift is questionable. There’s usually a couple more reasons involved beyond just additional width.

After reading through all the information I have been provided with, I think I'm going to do Tundra brakes w/ IFS Hubs in the front and the 60 axle in the rear.

Here's my reasoning. It looks like putting a 60 axle in the front would be a bit more work than it's worth for me. If it was just a matter of moving perches like the rear, I would be much more for it, but outboarding the mounts on the frame is a lot of work and my truck already has an OME 55 kit on it.

I already have a 60 rear housing that has had the perches moved to fit the Pig, and I have a lot of extra 60 rear axle parts around. The IFS hubs and Tundra brakes will make up the width in the front that the rear will add, and I already have a set of hubs. Tundra brakes will obviously provide a lot better braking as well.

The FJCO kit is also an option, but from a monetary standpoint it's expensive. I haven't found an actual cost on it, but from reading through the thread it looks like it would be around $1k-$1500 to just put that on the rear. I'm well aware that you have to pay to play in the cruiser world, but that would only accomplish what I can accomplish already with the 60 rear I already have. I think doing the tundra stuff on the front would come in significantly under what an FJCO kit would for the rear as well and provide more bang for the buck.
