No it wasn't. It was long, ca. 275 mile, drive back at 50-55, sometimes 45. Time for a real tow rig.
The 80-series doesn't seem to be a weapon of choice for towing.
I bet that MB diesel isn't light either...

I have an original rear bumper you can have if you decide to go back to OEM. It's missing one of the ends but otherwise fine. Of course you have a decent matching set on there so you might want to just keep those.
Thank you sir, but I believe I’ll hold off for now. These bumpers are kinda ugly, but they are also welded straight to the frame and very solid. I’m probably going to just weld a receiver to the rear and leave it. This Pig isn’t going to be pretty anyway.

The front bumper is also welded to the frame and whoever did it actually cut a notch out of the frame for the contour of the tube. I bought a set of Trail Tailor frame extensions from @LCMoneyPit in anticipation of putting a stockish bumper with an 8274 on the front, but with the bumper being welded to the frame I’m not sure how I will approach that.

The 80 is what we had so we used it. Hopefully never again. Towing the MB was slow but not riding the cusp of death. With the Pig on the ancient U-haul car carrier we could not exceed 55 without a tail-wagging-the-dog effect. We think it was a combination of unforeseen factors. Too much rig for the car carrier, high center of gravity, no shocks on the Pig, but once we noticed that the trailer would approach oscillation at speed we simply remained under that speed.

Also our attitude was "We're only driving in AL and MS," i.e. third world countries without leaving the continental US.

Very little to report on the Pig. I picked up this ‘72 FST on Friday from a guy who was either nuts or on coke. It has a disc brake front axle that I will be swapping under the Pig when the time comes.

The axle has Warn hubs on it, and I’m one of those people who prefers the Asco/ Aisin hubs. Now, the Long Body Asco hubs are very hard to find and expensive, Cityracer sells reproductions of these hubs. Are the Cityracer reproductions as strong as the factory Asco/ Aisin units?

I also Fluid Filmed the roof since all the paint has been stripped by the sun and it’s started to get pitted. I’m planning on painting at least the roof for protection.

I'm sure that will work but I would have been tempted to use a rust converter that you can paint over, like Corroseal.

I thought about using Rust Convertor however I don’t have any at the moment, Fluid Film was readily at hand and it’s better than a bare roof. When I paint it I’ll sand it down to bare metal to remove all surface rust so that it will be years before I have to think about it again.

My girlfriend helped me to sand down all the rust on the floor pans today, I then painted all the areas we sanded. I have a few areas left to go back and sand before finishing painting.

And no the above picture is not the finished product before I painted. And, yes, I painted with a brush, in the most old man way possible that I would absolutely judge anyone else for, but it has protection from more rust.

Holes?? Thought Jerry had all dat covered wit me stuff 🤔🧐😳😲👉😉😉🐖👈
They’re in a few areas I believe weren’t covered with replacement pans, bottom of B pillars and a few other places. Nothing bad

That's a good woman to spend her time sanding the Pig floor w/ you!

Nothing wrong w/ old man ways of painting the floor.
