I feel bad for the two people that live in a block of 20 vacant houses. They can't sell. I know Detroit is working on doing housing swaps for people in situations like that.

Price?

I went and looked at that 40 today. It was 20 min. from my house so what the heck. Nice guy. His wife wanted him to downsize and get a wheeler the family could go in as well. He did have other 40's . It was all there. Get in and go (except shocks). He was second owner. Def a good 40 for a wheeler. He said the truck was built years ago by someone local. He hasn't had any problems. Seemed like he owned it for awhile.

-Practically new 37" BFG Krawler blues with beadlock alum. wheels.
-2f with new head (done at local shop for $1700), troll hole carb, header, and new exhaust. Was leaking a little oil on the floor. Motor had a little bit of a noisy lower end. Sounded quiet for a 2f though. All Emissions was still intact
-SM465 trans(edit for correct number) 4 spd. with granny first gear
-F and R ARB air lockers
-Stock diff gears
-Cut and turned front axle. Trussed front and rear axles
-Londfield axle installed on pass side. Driv side included. Not installed.
-SOA with a block front and rear. OEM flattened springs. Rear had some crazy shackle mount that flexs I have never seen.
-FJ60 power steering conversion
-High steer
-Rear disc brake conversion.
-Winch not included
-Had a fuel cell mounted behind rear seat. Gauge didnt work
-Had rust on the hood, and rear floor. Rust here and there. Fenders where still pretty solid. D and P floorboards where pretty solid
-Frame looked to be solid and rust free for new england.
-Hard top was beat. No glass on one rear 1/4 window
-Pass. rocker panel was bent up full length
-Had no shocks. Def needed hoops for a longer shock. He wasn't street driving it. Just local trails behind his home. So he didn't use shocks because they hinder on droop
-Front shackles where beat
-Had a "different" tire carrier that was tube welded to the rear gate that the tire attached to.

Price was $5500. What do you guys think about that price? I really just wanted the wheels and tires. I made an offer on them but he didn't for it. He wants to sell the whole truck. It was hard to walk away. I really like the 40. I might go back...hmmm

Yeah the wheels and tires are worth half that.

So what do you think Chris? I told the guy I would call him back today.

It seems like a great price. I mean the tires and wheels alone are half the price. But I'm the last guy to ask about a 40. There are more knowledgeable guys in the club that know more. The only thing that bothers me is he installed ARB lockers but never changed the gears. Which to me is a no brainer. Head scratcher.

I just contacted him and offered $5k. Not sure if he will take it. Seemed like $5.5 was the bottom. After researching, it seems like a good deal. The prices on these things are all over the place.

I guess they didn't replace gears due to the upgraded trans. Geared lower than stock. I don't know about
40's much either. It did have quite a bit of aftermarket though. And those wheels/tires where NICE

If you do get it. What would your plans be for it.

IDK. Prob clean it up. Give it a quick paint job. new hard top, rear door. Put on some shock hoops and shocks. Maybe keep the wheels and tires. Prob drive it for a little bit then sell it if I don't become obsessed with it. Which is a good possability

Trying. Like you said I should have left with the title. Oh well. We will see what happens.

Seems like a great deal to me, as others have noted wheels/tires are worth half. Glad you made an offer, keeps me from doing the same.... and FJ/BJ40 or 45 is on the list. Gotta find a place to land that FJ60 power steering adapter I won at FG you know :) But we are overladen with trucks right now. With 6 at hand, Daniela is referring to it as a motor-pool....

In the world of used [fill in the blank] haggling down 10% offer is very reasonable. Would be surprised if he didn't accept. And it clearly ain't a candidate for a yuppy trophy, so the market for it, IMO, is very limited.

If he duz, me thinks you may need trailer and a winch for it :D

Classic Wrench quote

Why do I think Chris was that kid in school that got a lot detentions and scraped a lot of gum off the underside of desks? That is if went to public school. If he went to parochial school, well, then.....forget it, lets not go there....

Guy said he has someone coming tomorrow to buy both of his cruisers for sale including this one. So I'm second in line at this point. Only good thing is the other guy doesn't want the Krawlers and wheels so Maybe he will take my offer for those.

LOL you guys!
