Also. My tranny pops out of 3rd gear if you don't fully release the clutch before applying the gas. I was reading about the bushing that can be worn out. Anyone else have this issue that the bushing being replaced fixed it or am I looking at a tranny tear down?

So I need a little help. I'm hoping to do a 22R-22re swap with tax returns. I've looked all over the web and I'm still lost. I understand the parts list for what's needed. It's the wiring that gets me. On the list posted on pirate wouldn't all that (Wiring List section) be found on the engine wiring harness or are they seprate parts I'll have to buy?

Parts listfor 22R to 22REswap:

1 – EFI cam(edit: not needed. A carb cam will work)
2 – throttle body
3 – fuel runner
4 – upper intake
5 – lower intake
6 – EFI gas tank

8 – cross over air tube

Parts of the efi wiring is in the main harness. From memory, I believe the O2 sensor, maf, and ignitor are in there. There is at least one or 2 connectors in the main harness for the ecu. Plus you need wiring for the fuel pump, in the rear harness.

I also have a 22re with an unmolested wiring harness. The only issue is a auto ecu which I'd need a manual. Wouldn't that engine wiring harness work as well?

I didn't make my post very clear. What I'm wondering is I want to put a 22RE into my '84 with a manual transmission. The truck I want to pull the RE out of has an automatic transmission. Besides needing an ECU for a manual transmission is there anything else? Or will the engine wiring harness out of the truck with the auto work?

Well thought I'd update this a little bit. The trucks been running fine. Still dealing with carb issues. Going to go to EFI in September. With tax returns I'm going to buy a front axle service kit rear axle seals and redo all the brakes. I'll also be ordering a timing chain and eater pump from engnbldr. Will fully flush the radiator and block with water then to make sure its clean and will also be putting on a 20004 oil filter from CDan. Plans still include flat bed for it, spring from Alcan 31 KM2's front and rear winches dual batteries EFI swap/engine swap depending on how I feel, getting her painted to the stock tan colour, roll cage (after my last truck I really want one this time since I have a sunroof) and possibly pulling the frame from under the truck to sand blast and coat.

Well its starting. Pull the engine from my old truck to go in my new one. A nice running 22re. I'll be doing a write up about it as I'm using an ecu and wiring harness from a truck with an automatic tranny

Got started today with the swap. Pulled out the dash and got the air box and crossover tubing out along with the radiator. So far it’s been pretty easy, just unplugging stuff. Plans are tomorrow finish up getting the wiring harness out. Both the dash and engine bay, get the engine ready to be removed go over the wiring harness to figure out what I need and don’t need and check wires and solder new wires in if needed.

That's exactly where my 84 that used to live in Connecticut rusted. However, you may want to check under the carpet behind the wheelwells. Or, not check and live dumb and happy... There should be plenty of used Aisin carbs around, rebuilt or not. Weber... blech. If I ever was in that boat again I'd flatbed it unless you just GOTTA have a real pickup bed. I've seen several rigs with this kit and it's super nice. All Pro Offroad flatbed kit

plans are to flatbed it. The rust is going to be stopped. Planning on redoing the fenders and painting it. Possibly pulling off the cab to check the rest of the frame. And I know a carb would be easier. But I have access to a fully truck that I'm using for the swap

Well plans changed. Ended up pulling off all the EFI stuff off my '89. It bolts right on. The lower intake at least. I have to fab up another egr block off for the back of the upper intake. Going to cut the exhaust down a little bit to get it to fit as well. Using the O2 sensor as it is still good. Going without a cat as well until I get my new exhaust on it. I don't have any pictures yet. I'll take some tomorrow. 30 degrees out isn't fun to work in. I also have the dash apart and we'll be working on getting a different cluster to fit. Then I'm just down to swapping fuel tanks abs some writing. I need to find the hot wire on the fuel tank plug in for both the 89 and 84. Then wire a switch to turn the fuel pump on manually. Then just the neutral safety switch with another toggle switch as well. Both of these will be anti theft devices. And will work pretty good. Then I have to wire in the hazard light switch, stereo (which won't be fun as it'll just be guess and check) and figure out ignition wise if I can swap wires. Then she should run. Should be done Saturday or Sunday is my hope. If anyone has good wiring diagrams for an 89 Toyota pickup and 84 that'd be helpful. Seems to be the hardest to find them for. I've found 85 and 90 ones though. Which may work
