Ugliest of the 220s cleaned up, re-mantled and running. '65.

Didn't really do much to it. Gas it came filled with stank like old pump gas, but runs OK on new white gas. Some mild flicker.

I knew it! it had to be a Griswold, now I have to go hunting for one. Thanks man.
Yes very nice indeed but a bit spendy. but then again we drive LC's. they spendy too. LOL

Yes, amber globe and it has a built in lighter. Google says this is a more troublesome lantern than the 220s. Also a paint color that only the late 70s would think is cool.
Affectionately known in certain collectors circles as a “Turd” lantern.

Keep that tapered amber globe safe!

Thanks, I did see that on the coleman forums. Something having to do both with the color and the valve arrangement. Will get it running this weekend. It was used much less than the other two, it seems.

Need to order some parts anyway....the valve packing is disintegrating in both my 425 stoves.... are the peerless mantles any good?

I find them to be tougher than the over the shelf Coleman mantles.
They take transport a bit better.
As far as light, they’re about the same, or a tad better.

NOTHING beats the old radio active Silk lites for clear bright light.

Ordered some, put a couple in the 275 after I got it cleaned up... and it doesn't work.

Easily in the best condition of the three- appears to have not much use, and the tank pressurizes beautifully, check valve works great, but the operating valve does not give any flow. Research shows these are prone to valve problems and sort of a pain to fix.

Hmm.
Might be a clogged generator, or the pricker needle is not moving.

Did you try swapping generators with one of your other 220’s?

It might be the Schaefer valve, but I’d check the generator first.
If gen is no good, time for full tear down.
They can get clogged up if left with fuel in em for long periods of time.
The Fuel Air tubes as well.

When they do run, they are bright and quiet…and brown all over.

I actually like that profile quite a bit. ;)

By "ugly" I mean worst condition. Definitely an iconic look.

It runs now. The jet was varnished and bent the pricker.

I found a Griswold #7 waffle iron at an estate sale a few weeks ago, picked it up for $60. Needs some restoration before using it though.
Post pics? Is there a #9?
