Hey @FJStan I see your in NJ. The Gotham City Cruisers winter meeting is coming up in Feb, they hold it in NJ. Check them out in the clubhouse section. I’ve never gone but met a bunch of them. Lots of great folks and a number of nice well used 60’s in the group.
@woytovich... pretty sure this guy is in it.

I’ll definitely look into it. I wasn’t aware there was a meet around here - THX

I just missed it - it was held last weekend - so annoying

Darn well, contact them regardless. Quite sure I’m right on that name too. I believe he has a white 60 w/ a sweet rear panel cage of sorts built around it. (My brain is fried from work today, excuse my poor word choices.)
They are on Facebook too.

Grey... but close... (new 38s on the front, old 33 ATs on the back when the picture was taken)

I love that setup. Gray huh? Always looked white to me. It’s a sweet truck. I’ve watched you wheel. It eats up the trails.
Did you run it like that? Diff sized tires? I had no idea that was possible. Huh. You got me thinking now. Ignore me. Like I said thick headed now. Was this mid swap?

Not to hijack the thread, but...
86 FJ60 + H55f 5 speed + ToyBox 4.7 + 4.56 diffs w/ARBs
2" body lift + 3.5" spring lift fits 38" Swampers... painted single stage light gray
Yeah the 38s are new... previously 36" Swampers

Hesitation fixed, now no A/C

After a year and a half of fiddling with my emmisions systems (in an attempt to solve my hesitation/stuttering problem at around 1800 RPM) and about a week out from completely desmogging my cruiser, I finally solved this mystery. My stuttering was solve by disconnecting the tachometer. Simple as that. Wow, what a difference!

Here's a new problem: when I disconnected the tach at the coil, my A/C compressor stopped working. If I plug the tack back in, the compressor comes on, but engine stutters again. Anybody have any insight as to why this is? THanks.

Thank you to everyone who takes the time to share their experiece on this site. It's amazing the information and expertise that is available. thanks to all the excellent info available on this site.

Where do you disconnect the tachometer at? I'm experiencing the sputtering issue. I want to try this first.

If i remember right, you have to disconnect it behind the tach...but look it up through the forums. I did what was suggest and did not feel a difference, but hopefully it works for you

Hooray for thread revivals !!

read through this late last night, and attacked "Bertha" this morning. first plugged off the EGR with golf tees, not sure of the Toyota part# on these, but the tech at Toyota dealership thought they would probably run around 20.00 apiece(humor)
replaced the HAC & Modulator filters with 2 layers of my daughters face cleaning pads !!(read cheap) they work perfect, are already a circle, and just cut to size.
capped off the rear hose coming from dizzy diaphragm.hope i am describing this correctly? anyway took her out for a spin, and the acceleration was smooth as glass. no hesistation whatsoever. revved through the gears at various RPM's,perfect !
it was like pure magic. i'm still working out little stuff a bit at a time,as this is my DD. thanks from rookie

photos?

Just wanted to throw my experience into the ring:

Tried the tach disconnect against my better judgment. It might have helped a bit. I'm not sure if it was placebo or if it genuinely helped. So I reattached the tach.

But what really helped is bypassing the EGR altogether (capping that circuit between the modulator and valve). I suspect the main module is just gunked to hell -- I had an 06 sprinter recently that had a similar issue that put it into limp mode. The bucking is probably the 60's version of a limp mode.

What sucks is I just had the damn thing off when I was doing a manifold gasket replacement. Oh well. I will be taking it off _again_ and over to a machine shop so they can dip it a dozen or so times. I really don't like the idea of putting _even more_ pollution into the air, not to mention the EGR hypothetically makes the vehicle more efficient.

Hi, These 30 year old pollution parts are shot. Get rid of them. Cats will do most of the work. These truck need the valves adjusted as per Toyota. I use ethanol free gas. Mike
