The kids are about to go down for bed, and I may be pulling an all-nighter 😂

Here's a good view of the satin finish against the comeup gloss:

How'd the allnighter go?

assembled the swingarms and now waiting on Ben to answer a few questions. There's also a heatwave going on in Houston, so trying to avoid going outside 🤷🏻‍♂️

Did you order the 8020 bare so you can coat them matching? Or are you going to just roll with them however they show up?

Near perfect match!

That pressurized water tank solution looks great. I will say that I now rarely carry liquids on the roof anymore and when I do, I try to ensure that there is very little room for sloshing around. The reason is that liquid isn’t a static load. Let’s say that you use 4 gallons and then get on the road. You have 6 gallons which is ~42 lbs moving from side to side at a high point on your rig. Although it isn’t enough to cause any major issues, you definitely will feel it. Even full, it will have movement that you will need to account for in your driving.

It's been 90+ degrees, and combining that with WFH, I've averaged about an hour a day outside working on the bumpers (zero on the weekends (family time)). Front is 100% and I decided to wrap up the water tank while I waited on the amazons to deliver me a 2 to 3 wire converter for the rear combo lights.

We live about an hour from the beach, so the plan for this thing was always just to wash the kids off before they got back into the rig. Honestly, I hadn't thought about all the sloshing, but now I'll make sure it's empty before we head back home.

Using a male to male adapter, I can use the hose bib to fill it up. City pressure gets it up to 49psi, or I can purge the air out to fill it to the brim. The water should be nice and warm from sitting in the sun all day, and hopefully the 100lbs rocket doesn't go flying off the roof 😬

Looks sweet as usual for your stuff. How did you hide all the securing fasteners?

No fasteners in that pic. Plan to strap the crap out of it for transport.

I didn't feel like making a whole thing out of prepping and painting the grill, so I just skuffed it up and sprayed it with a whole can of plasti-dip. I hit it with some 220 sand paper and then started out with a few light coats.

Finally put the resonator out of its misery. I know this might be "illegal", but are there any real safety concerns? I mean, how much CO do modern cars really put out these days? And are we not sealed up enough to where fumes could actually seep up into the cab during idle?

(It's just jammed on there -not welded. Will duct tape if it meets everyone's approval)

Nice job on the grill. Looks great.

No worries on the resonator. I think it is more for noise suppression than exhaust. By the time it gets that far, it has already been through the catalytic converter. As far as the cab goes, I think the rules are the same as before. The placement is only one factor in the equation, but you should be fine as long as you are not sleeping in the cab with it running overnight, but that would be true no matter if you had deleted the resonator or not.

The real concern is the heat that it puts out. As long as it is not directly below any wiring and it is generally downfacing it should be good.

I would definitely not duct tape it. It should be welded on. It’ll cost you $30 at a shop although I bet one of your kids would could do it for $20 😂

Seriously though, you have done an amazing amount of work in the last month. It’s looks really amazing. I am digging the ladder solution. This is on my list.

I ran that way for a few months, I did get some bubbling in the sealants in the spare area eventually, I think from a chemical reaction not from heat. No big deal, but something to watch.

Flextape will hold better... ;)

It cost me $40 to have a muffler shop bend a 3" pipe and weld on my stock resonator tip. Had them go a tiny bit long in case I decide to change out the tip. Totally worth not having to sweat outside in 100 degree heat.

I also finally snagged a cargo box. Some rich folk put up an $800 (barley used) Showcase20 for $250 and I picked it up within an hour of it being posted. Not sure what makes a box $200 more than a $600 one, but i figured it would work out. Was also hoping to get a black one, but no problemo. I let the kids plasti-dip it black. Plasti-dip all the things!!

Hope you have better luck with the box. Mine is absolutely destroyed from 3 years of being loaded heavy + corrugations. 3 of 4 internal mounts have snapped loose and the bottom of the box has stress cracks. I'm moving to either a rugged hard case or soft-sided roof bags.

Interesting bit of info. As we are expecting our third, I had planned on a cargo box. Possibly the Rhino Rack version to match the roof rack I just ordered. But may end up going with something a bit wider. I certainly enjoy hitting the bumpy stuff. Are there any "rugged" cargo boxes? Or more "aero" versions of the hard cases?

Did it live on your roof or on/off as needed? Yakima won't cover it? Apparently it has a lifetime warranty 🤷🏻‍♂️

We picked it up in the burban and used the "feet" it came with, but I switched to SS 1/4" carriage bolts into the Prinsu t-rails. I used the stock brackets for 4 of the bolts, and now I'll find some larger washers for the other 4 after your experience.
