Hi,

I need to replace all the u-joints of my rig.
So the Terrain Tamer ones any good? Or stick with OEM?

Cheers

Terrain Tamer are made by Matsuba in Japan. Matsuba is an aftermarket Japanese parts manufacturer.

OEM are manufactured by Koyo.

Both will work fine for your application. Some people like the OEM Koyo's; some folks are fine with aftermarket parts.

I run Koyos and have the Matsuba as back-up for trail spares.

I have heard for a long time that the OEM U-joints in the Toyota land cruiser are superior products. I was told that again when I had a front DC drive shaft built at a local, reputable shop. He said, when it comes to U-joints stay OEM as best as you can.

I made the mistake 2x of trying the m00g one's and they were garbage and lasted only 8 months the line drive shop even said the m00g where not as good as Matsuba I will always use a Japanese product

Terrain Tamer Site says manufactured by OEM supplier in Japan. I need to do replace mine soon as well - what's the price difference?

Matusba is NOT OEM for the Land Cruiser line. They might be for other platforms since Toyota goes deep with its supplier group companies (Tier 1 companies alone are well over 75 companies. Total supplier network as published is over 500 companies).

Honestly I would just call onur and order a set. For something that can drive you mad, like bad joints, I would just go back OEM and call it a day.

Hi,

Thanks for all your feedback.
Cost wise, here in Europe, each Terrain Tamer is about $45 and a original goes for $95.

I just picked up 4 GMB (made in Japan) u joints for under $40. Fingers crossed.
I had 4 GMB joints that I never installed. I forget which two it was, but, two said made in Japan and two said made in China. Kinda strange. Cruiseroutfitters won’t sell you junk and 37.50 for a Matsuba joint is very affordable.

Cruiser Outfitters also has the Matsuba joints, $37.50ea.

We stock OEM Joints too!

That said we've sold thousands (literally) of the Matsuba joints in the last 25 years with fantastic results. They've run in KOH cars, they've run the Baja 1000, they've run the Pan American Highway, crossed Australia and Greenland. Zero beef with that kind of track record and we'll continue selling them for another 25 years :D

So you're saying the most painful part of doing my U-joints will be smashing my knuckles, not the burning from my wallet?
