You've been asking for it and it's finally here! One of the most popular Tepui Tents just got better. Tepui is pleased to announce the new RUGGEDIZED AUTANA ROOF TOP TENT. $1750
All of the killer features of the standard Autana with the extended canopy and included annex, now with all the upgrades of the Ruggedized models.
The Autana Ruggedized is the toughest Tepui roof top tent on the market. It is perfect for 4x4 trailers and tough off-road rigs.
- Diamond Plate Base
- 360g Dual Stitched Fabric (40% heavier than standard models)
- Anti-condensation mat (1/2") under the mattress
- Fully wrapped 3/4" heavy duty internal frame
- Heavy duty 3-bolt hinges and welded aluminum base construction
- Extra-large internal pockets, gear anchor points, & bedding Straps
- Velcro window surround for clear window accessory (sold separately)
- Fully enclosed annex featuring the same heavy duty material used for the tent canvas.

I just bought the gran sabana, can't wait. Heard good things about tepui and am excited to get it....

Nice...pretty happy with quality of it? I see other RTT in your area there whereabouts are you camping?

I used your tent all summer and I have this to say... what a great tent... Cascade makes a great tent, but on every level, your tent is better.

I know this is a Toyota site, but I won't tell them it's a Hummer underneath that tent if you don't :p:worms:

Right on! Thanks for sharing that. And nice H3! The Autana is my personal favorite. Great tent. Glad you're enjoying it and that its working well for you.

Not to sound like a dick, but how are the basic Tepui tents different than all the other tents out there that look exactly the same? In our collective hive mind, we think all these different brands are made in the same factories in China, just with different brand name labels applied.

just because it's China doesn't mean its made by the same people. It is the same with winches, there's junk and there is really quality Chinese made... that picture with mine, I was at the NW Overland rally, and I got to see the two side-by-side... and there are differences, especially finish...

There's a guy in Australia (who sells his own tent) that did a great YouTube video on how to tell quality tents from average tents... things like sealing the places where the fabric comes together (read, lots of extra labor), using higher quality material, and stupid things (okay, that's my editorial) where the designer really had to think about how the tent is used - e.g. some of the older cascade tents have floors that are permanently part of the annex, or how the annex attaches to the tent are both areas that tell how good a tent is built. My neighbor at the rally had a Cascade tent, and how the annex attached to the tent was really frustrating for him (you can't store it on the tent and it slides in a channel.... all while standing on the floor)

long winded, but no, just because they came from China doesn't mean they're the same; and all tents are not created equal.

so you asked the differences:
sealed seams
how the annex attaches
the type and construction of the ladder (and its attachment)
the bedding material
the storage of the bits to put the tent up
how much you can store in the tent when its folded
how the cover goes on
how the cover is held down
whether the ladder has to be stored separately from the tent
how to put the sun shades up (can you do it from the inside?)
how the tent is held to the vehicle
whether you can easily make modifications to the racking system
how much weight it can handle
how strong the hinge is
how the rain fly attaches and how easy it is to get off
again, where you store the stuff (and I have a criticism of that issue with the Tepui, but I guess comparatively they're both the same - bad) - the rod that holds the cover open is U shaped, until you sit on it - and there's no easy way to store it - at least it bends back easily?...

how large the tent is when open - the ARB tent is smaller than the Cascade of Tepui

but best of all... I got told the translation of Tepui (it's actually a word)....

dwelling place of gods - a Brazilian camper informed me.... so you folks can have your lessor, I need a place fit for a Hummer driver :D

Yep. even when two different brands advertise to have the same weight canvas, there can be quality differences. It's like buying Walmart bed sheets compared to bedsheets from Ethan Allen that have the same thread count. Just because the thread count is the same doesn't mean the Walmart sheets are as good as the Ethan Allen sheets.

There's a lot to be said for the level of quality control that each company demands.

Well, I've been researching rtt's for about 4 weeks, printing out reviews, photos, talking to customer service. Customer service is huge, I just received my tepui tent (gran sabana). I'm really impressed with quality, setting it up, I called tepui twice, excellent customer service. That being said and only owning this rtt, I'm really satisfied so far. Will send pic of it on my troopy here shortly. Thanks tepui..

I have been trying to find one of those tents but they seem to be out of stock. Any chance anyone can help me find one preferably in Haze Grey color ? I am kind of fixed on the Autana Ruggedized for now.

I'll check with the shop tomorrow and see what the status is on having them back in stock. Shouldn't be too far out. Also, I'll find out when the ETA is on the Haze Grey ones. Up to this point the Autana Ruggedized has only been available in Orange. But I'll try to get you some answers.

FYI, the other posts in this thread from TepuiTents are mine as well as I manage both accounts, so feel free to contact me either way.
