Alright everyone it's getting close to that time. Less than two weeks before the big event in Tellico. As the safety coordinator I'd thought I would go ahead and get people prepared for some essential things that need to be done.

1st and formost is our safety on the trails. In order to do that we need a few things.

1. First Aid Kit
2. Emergency contact for each member
3. tow strap
4. tree saver
5. snatch block
6. winch
7. cell phone
8. handheld radio
9. cb
10. water
11. Hi lift
12. Who knows Emergency rescue?
13. fire extinguisher (all vehicles are required to have one) they are no more than $10
14. functioning parking brake, lights,
horn, decent tire tread, full size spare and seatbelts.
Tags and Insurance unless you are trailering your vehicle.
15.Each member should have as much recovery/safety gear
as possible for their own sake.
Winch for example is optional. Brakes, lights, tires
and insurance are not.

What else?

I personally think that every driver should be required to have #8. There are many in the club like myself who have more than one for those who don't have them. But a count of who does and who doesn't before the trip might be a good idea.

#1 should be required for any group and at least have one for every five vehicles partaking in an event. Or one very large one.

#2 should be required. If you get injured on the trail. I would think you would want us to call someone. At least two people should have this list.

#3 Should be required and at least two for more than ten vehicles

#4 If your winching from a tree you have to have one. We are not here to tear up the environment.

#5 this should be required and more than one if more than ten vehicles.

#6 it's no necessary but would be very nice. A come-a-long or Hi-lift (#11) would work but at least one of something per 5 vehicles.

#7 at least one per 5 vehicles. (I don't see this being a problem)

#8 this one device has proven to be a life saver as well as a time saver. Nothing worse than a bunch of people yelling out there windows at each other. If you have a loud vehicle like mine I'd suggest an earphone to hear what everyone is saying.

#9 I have no idea on this one but some other clubs use them and I think they are a requirement for GSMTR. Something to discuss.

#10 I have no idea how much but Alex usually carries 5 gallons with him at all times. I'm pretty sure we cannot live without water nor our cruisers.

#11 discussed in the #6 items. It seems every time we go out wheeling we use one of these things.

#12 If i was in trouble on the trail I would like the person most qualified for the job to help me. If we know peoples qualifications before the event we have a better chance of surviving an accident. Last thing I want to hear if I'm having a heart attack is "Does someone here know CPR?"

#13 is required

So for those of you going please go through your stuff and let me know what you have. That way I can make sure we are covered. Because some of us have more than one above. Those of you who have parking brake issues or other mechanical issues can just e-mail me and we can go over them. The last thing I want is to tell you that you cannot go. We just need to know what is going on so we can make sure everyone on and off the trail remains safe.

How big is that rock?

good stuff marshall!!

but I have a question, does a rock count as a parking brake??? :grinpimp:

mine is on the list to be fixed for Tellico

Don't fj62s have a park on the auto ? :flipoff2:
TLCA says that'll pass. Line locks as well.
Some places won't accept either or one of those
options. We do. :grinpimp:

thats a good thing you take the "auto brake" because i dont have the money to get a custom cable made up.

full size spare? its in montana unmounted lol. i do have a 31 mounted and with me if thats good enough

There was quite the heated debate over TLCA rules in this area.
It's a touchy issue. Basicly, the final call goes to the designated
safety inspector for the host club.
I would hate to see an auto slammed into park to
get stopped, but you do what ya gotta do. Loss of fluid can make
line locks useless.
We take both but encourage members to address this situation
in the building of the trucks.
Full size just means don't bring one of those tiny new car spares.
If you are running large tires and a locker it can be rough
and tricky to get it back with a donut on one side.
I don't see the 31 as a problem, but, I ain't the inspector.

Reminds me! My spare has a valve leak I gottta fix.
