While replacing timing chain and cover along with upper oil pan I had the bottom keys on the crankshaft at the very bottom as FSM says. Lined up chain perfect. Doing this causes cylider 1 & 6 to be at their up position. So, installed cylinder head with piston at top of 1 & 6.

Am I good to continue with positioning and installing the intake camshaft with lobes down on cyliner 1 & 4 as FSM states, or do I need rotate the crankshaft to a slifhtly different position?

No the crank need to be at TDC with chain bright link at the top, that will line up with the cam timing gear(it has a dot on the gear to line the bright link up with) then install the cames per fsm. And make sure the cams get rotated with the dot marks on the cams in their correct position, then intsall the cam timing gear onto the intake camshaft and install the tensioner. Don’t forget to remove the service bolt on the exhaust camshaft.

If the key on the crankshaft is at the center on the bottom, you're at TDC with pistons one and six at highest point. Then follow ^^^

Head is on now, camshafts in, crank is at 0. I turned the camshafts so that 1 dots meet in the middle, and 2 dots line up on the outside. Installed camshaft timing gear and bolt. Timing chain has VERY little slack, is that normal? Getting ready to install tensioner now but just wanted to ask.

Once things are on, it actually seems perfect. Can’t have slack. Now for the valve cover.
