Chevy 350 power plant with a carter 635 on it presently. I was offered a tbi for it for cheap and could have a buddy put it in for me for next to nothing.

If it was a daily driver, would you go with the tbi or keep the carb?

My plan was to buy a wiring harness from s&sclassics anyway so one more would be an issue.

if you have the money i would go injection. but i went TPI and spent about 1600.00 and a year and a half scrounging parts to put it together. good luck!!

Hmmm....here's a topic I can weigh in on. My vote is TBI. Just finishing a conversion on a SBC 350 as you can see in the sig line. My rig runs so much better now and is so much more reliable that I couldn't imagine going back to a carb. Add to that the increase in fuel efficiency and improved off-road performance and the fact that it starts everytime (with no messing with a choke) and fuel injection makes the most sense. I mean, hell, you'll never have to re-jet because of elevation changes - the computer adjusts all that for you.

The GM TBI found in late 80's early 90's trucks/suburbans is reasonably simple (TPI is too complicated for me) as it's setup very similiar to a carb and parts are abundant and cheap. For those that say low-tech is the best tech I say TBI is the low-tech of fuel inejection. I respect the guys that are loyal to carbs and really know how to tune 'em and make 'em run right but I knew I would never be one. I'm a lousy mechanic. I believe that once your EFI is set-up and tuned properly, even though it's a lot more involved up front, the pay-off is much lower maintenance over time.

Of course, if I every find a really clean, stock cruiser that I wanted to restore I would run the original motor with the carb as Toyota intended. :meh:

Hope that helps,
Ed

coming from some one who has a carb on there sbc i vote TBI . i will eventually TBI mine or swap the whole thing out for a vortec engine .

I'm sure glad to see all votes for TBI. Crap, I don't care if it's a daily driver, rock crawler, dune buggy, or wall flower, TBI is the ticket for performance, fuel economy, dependability, and especially off road'ability!!!
