This thread is to outline the installation of the Tandem Off-road rear bumper.

The Sequoia has an integrated hitch into frame which makes it difficult to mount a rear bumper to the truck. There are two factory point on the frame with two bolt holes each that are used to mount the bumper. There are two systems of "clamps", one located at the front of the bumper (forward clamp) and one on the rear of the frame on the member where the hitch is welded to (rear clamp).

Installation Time: 15-20hrs

Step 1: Assemble the Bumper
  • Mount the Left and right Pin Plates to the bumper
  • Mount the Swing Arm Strike Pads to the bumper
  • Mount the Lightforce Rok40 flush mount lights to the bumper (optional)

Step 2: Assemble the Swing Outs
  • Install the Storage Doors
    • The hinges are side specific and must be mounted a specific way. (see picture below)
    • 1699195988249.png
    • The Storage Door Latches will need a little bit of fiddling to get right.
  • Install the rubber grommets in the doors so you can run cables through them without worrying about chafing.
  • Install the Latches on to the Swing Outs. Be careful when you screw on the bottom bolt as it is shallow and it may strike the metal behind it.
  • Wait to install the Tire Carrier once the Swing Outs are mounted to the bumper (optional but it will make your life easier)

Step 3: Remove the factory Rear Bumper
  • Remove the factory mud flaps
  • Disconnect the backup sensor harness from the vehicle
  • Remove the factory rear bumper (save this for later)
  • Remove the factory bumper support brackets located at the back of the vehicle
    • 1699224254858.png
  • Remove the bumper/mudflap supports located behind the rear tire
    • 1699224399546.png
  • Remove top bumper supports

Step 4: Prepare for test fit
  • Remove the Trailer Plugs bolted to the frame and set these aside
  • Make Clearance to slip the bumper on by trimming and folding in some tabs
    • 1699223607337.png
    • 1699223910822.png
  • Hammer the trailer plug tab against the frame
    • 1699224664858.png
  • Cut the "skirts" hanging off the body on the left and right side of the vehicle
    • 1699225446263.png
  • Grind off big welds on the frame as necessary. There may be some welds on the bottom of the frame that need to be ground off for the bumper to sit flush on to the frame.

Step 5: Test Fit the bumper
  • With the help of a friend, pick up the bumper and place it on the truck. Careful not to scratch the paint.
    • PRO TIP: We like to use height adjustable tables. Super handy for putting bumpers on and when youre not using them to put on bumpers you can use them as tables.
    • 1699272425413.png
  • Line up the two holes on the bottom of the bumper with the holes in the bottom of the frame. Use the provided bolts and Bumper Bolt Load Distributor to check initial fit. Load distributor goes between the bumper and the bolts. In the picture below, there are no load distributors but you should use them because the holes are oversized to allow for adjustment. Put the bolts in by hand. Do not impact them. You may need to run a tap through them because of rust or paint.
    • 1699272797808.png
    • 1699272966860.png
    • Check the fit on the left side of the body
    • Check the fit on the right side of the body
    • There is a gap designed between the bumper and the body to allow the body to move separately from the body and thus prevent damage to the body during flex or bumps.
  • Recommended fit should look something like this:
    • 1699273790864.png

    • Add shims between the bottom of the frame and the bumper to bring the bumper down
    • 1699274069854.png
  • Test fit will look like this:

Step 6: Prepare to trim factory bumper

  • Remove parking sensors and sensor harness
    • 1699275093731.png
  • Start to trim factory bumper. The first trim is the "Rough trim"
    • Here is a template we are working on.
      • 1699275210037.png
    • Template explained
      • 1699275589489.png
    • The white line on the bumper is approximately where your first trim will be
      • 1699275697381.png
    • This is what the bumper will look like after the first trim
      • 1699275801297.png
    • Remove the rear bumper from the truck and put the trimmed piece back on the truck
      • 1699275933874.png
    • Now try to put the bumper back on the truck. It will probably not go on because there will need to be more trimming on the factory bumper. You are putting the bumper on to see where you need to do additional trimming.
      • On the sides we trimmed the vertical parts so that they are flush with the Tandem Bumper. There is a gap here because the bumper is not bolted on:
        • 1699276644605.png
      • Gap goes away when bumper is bolted on. Apply weather stripping to clean up the aesthetics later on.

It's a living document with instructions for installation of the bumper. I'll write the instructions here and if people run into problems then we can address them here once and other people can see how to resolve the problems as well.

This is nice to see, do you have pricing on it yet?
