Toyota is recalling just about every car they make, but the LC seems absent. They are breaking the recall into areas, with southern areas treated somehow differently since heat is what degrades the parts.

I am wondering if the LC SHOULD be included, since Takata seems to be one of the only mfr of these components, what are the odds the LC has some other supplier? Then again, perhaps the LC's rugged design omitted it from these issues.

Just a few days ago I was thinking the same about my LX. I'm interested in knowing who built the bags as I live in Florida which is an affected state.

I hate to say it, but Toyota is kinda skimpy on this type of stuff. I am willing to bet we have the same parts...

It wouldn't surprise me if we have the same parts, but then why wouldn't the LC be included in the recall? I find it hard to believe that a different design for the LC would offset the use of faulty airbags that explode violently and send metal fragments everywhere.

Hmmm.....there is the Highlander, RAV4, Camry, 4Runner, Land Cruiser, Tacoma, Prius, Avalon, Sienna, and Yaris (and their Lexus equivalents, if any) of that era and I think most are not covered in the recall. It seems possible that different models of airbags could be used on different vehicles, even if from the same manufacturer. A quick search of MUD didn't show any issues with fragments from L.C. airbags.

i'm keeping my fingers crossed that we are not in the recall; big plus for us is that we are manufactured in japan and the plants back then only did either the LC or the LX so parts may have been located from another manufacturer and not Takata. even though Takata is a Japanese company etc lets all hope we don't get in that group

I feel the opposite; I hope we are in the recall batch. I honestly can't believe the airbags aren't time-limited components anyway. It's actually pretty impressive that a safety system like this can sit inert for 15 years (my case) and still have a very high reliability rate after heat cycling vibrating for all that time. Having a new, fresh set of bags installed would be a plus IMO.

Q: does this only affect driver's side bag? Driver and pax? Side curtain?

I wonder who gets the fun of setting all 30+ million bags off. Do they just throw away all of that explosive? This is probably going to contribute HUGE to global warming. :steer:

I am with you here. I also have an 01 Sequoia that I hope the airbags will be recalled.

Would guess they just replace the igniter and the bag and cover will remain the same. I had to remove one from a steering wheel/airbag setup I brought back from Japan for my Supra as to fly with the igniter is illegal. Four nuts and it pops right off. I would think this would be the route they would go as it would be more cost effective than replacing all the covers, bags etc..

Checked both of my VIN's, says '0 open recalls'. I'm fine leaving them alone, my guess is the dealer would mess something up.

My guess is that considering that the Landcruiser is Toyota's flagship vehicle and that much like everything else associated with the LC as opposed to all other Toyota models, the airbags would be different also. From everything I know (which may not be that much), Toyota really strives to make the Landcruiser the best of the best.
After all, isn't that why we drive them?

Autoliv makes the Driver airbag for my LC and LX 100 series airbags.
