Confirming that this 100% DIY-able on an early LC, just did it twice, have not personally done a later one.

3 options: Techstream, an airbag capable ODB2 scanner, or special service tool (aka paper clip) in the diagnostic port located on the right fender-side of the engine bay. This is NOT the OBD2 port. I used the SST method.

The process is well-documented in the diagnosis portion of the FSM and addressed in prior threads here so I won’t repeat it all. But a couple of observations:

1. Pull and understand the trouble code first. If you’re using the SST, it will be in “Morse code” via the the instrument panel SRS warning light. Don’t just reset if something in the SRS is truly broken.

2. The trickiest part with the SST method is timing. You need ground the Tc and AB pins in the diagnostic port alternately, for exactly 1 second, +/- 200 ms. Counting “one Mississippi…” didn’t work for me, so I programmed some timed tones on my phone to pace me. I could only get this work reliably grounding to the negative battery post, I guess it needs REALLY good continuity?

SST method is a 5 cent alternative to hundreds at the dealer, if it’s something simple like a code triggered by removing the airbag. If it’s more serious, have it looked at.
