Jason, is there height clearance for 5mm material atop the aluminum? Thinking Seadek to give my knees a little break ;)

D,

I think you be fine with that build up. Not sure how high your drawers are above the tailgate now. I can't remember from when you were here last time.

Basically the lid sits at the same height/thickness as the OE carpet panel right now.

Thanks. I have ~12mm clearance between OEM carpet and bottom edge of the front face of my AO drawers; so 5mm will work nicely. Maybe even double at 10mm would be fine especially for my knees :D.

Should be good on space. I'm looking for a padding/cushion so curious how the Seadek works out.

All the stainless hardware and allen keys arrived today.

spressomon, how would you attach you seadek to aluminum? I just wonder, I've been searching around. I see velcro, peel and stick, but I don't see a glue or epoxy option.
Have you used seadek before? I haven't so I don't really know.

I see treadmster and the two part epoxy but their smooth sheets are awful thin (3mm)

I've worked offshore. my entire life and I can't think of any option that's cheaper, and has more cushion. I'm just bored. SO I'm thinking.

I'm curious as well and I know @TrekboxX is trying to source a padded/softer deck material as well.

Seadek is adhesive backed.

I saw that, I just have no experience with it and probably wouldn't trust it with first hand reports. (peel and stick) Their website doesn't even talk about it over aluminum.

Hi guys,
I'm working with Gatorstep. My understanding is that they both use 3m adhesives, but there are differences in the application of the adhesives that may give a performance difference. The top foam layer is the same material as I understand it, but the lower layer is not. Gatorstep assured me that their adhesive sticks, and sticks well. They said you can also add adhesive in the future if you have a corner, for example, that starts to lift due to excessive wear. I would imagine if you scuffed the aluminum and cleaned it with alcohol it would stick just fine. I'll have more info soon.

I was looking at them to, and anyone else I saw. Personally I want thick. I was reading about the PWC guys and their ideas about having an under layer. I suppose I'll figure it out after I get it in. I'm bleeding money.

Rev 3 scans are in and reviewed for the mock up cuts. Waiting on the lead time for the mock ups and I will drive to SLC to pick these up and test fit.

Some have asked why this process takes so long.............ONE -- I'M BEING ANAL! and TWO-- Take a peak at the 100 lid and this is just 1 of 4 scans to review... I had 21 scans all together. If the mock ups fit to my liking they will go to press, otherwise I will make changes and go to Rev 4 scans and a Rev 2 mock up.

seadek's answer to, "will your peel and stick be sufficient for a raw aluminum toolbox lid."

Thank you for your interest in SeaDek and contacting us in regards to your aluminum tool box. With the large number of decks on the market there is no real way for us to be certain SeaDek will properly stick to all surfaces. SeaDek generally adheres to fiberglass very well so long as it is properly prepped prior to installation. The best way to know for sure that SeaDek will stick is to test it with a small sample piece. If you can provide us with your mailing address, we will be happy to send you a sample kit so you can test the material on your surface. When installing SeaDek there will be gaps between the pads so the surface will be seen. It will be your personal preference what that surface looks like under the pads. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

I'd try it if someone else tried it first, seadek looks cool. This is just my opinion, I'd rather glue something down.

I see, well perhaps I will order next week anyways.

Cheers

I, No worries, just let me know. I still have this first run order open so I can add you if you want to prepay. I have 42 people on the contact list that are hoping for any leftovers, but I'm only ordering 5 extras.

I'll let you know before I order.

Received the Seadek 5mm samples. I think 10mm would be doable but 5mm is a little thin. Having said that the 5mm Seadek is a little more knee friendly than my OEM carpet tailgate panel.

But I would need something more durable as I can easily scuff the sample material with my fingernails. Can't imagine the same material holding up to marine/boat decks as they advertise.
