Synthetic oil to 2f

What benefits does a synthetic do to a 2f than a regular oil?

Synthetic has many benefits...it is 'slicker' that fossil oil (that is why some people may experience a leak from the rear seal), it runs cooler, can withstand higher temps without breaking down and loosing its lubricating affects. It lasts longer (extended oil changes), though some people prefer not to run it longer...the choice is yours. In my Harley, I run Amsoil and change every 10,000 miles, have never had a problem and have over 100,000 miles on it (been running Amsoil since 40,000 miles). In the cruiser, I run it for roughly 7,000 miles. Started running Mobil 1 in it at 70,000 miles and it now has 120,000. I'm a believer :D

A common, and very old myth, is that synthetics "cause" leaks. Couldnt be farther from the truth. If you were running reg oil and had small leak that you may have not noticed, yes, a synthetic may make it worse due to its superior properties in lubrication But syns dont actually cause leaks : Switching back from a syn, and then the oil leak "stops" is an urban myth

Goin syn with 5000 oil mile changes are the norm in normal driving conditions vs 3000 with reg oil

Syns arent really "more slippery". There are way less prone to breakdown in driving conditions, much more so than reg oils. Lubrication properties are way superior as well

Allot of folks sticking with reg oils are because syns are more expensive But figure 3000 vs 5000 mile oil changes, and the longer parts tend to last with syns, and the costs actually run about the same in the end run

I know people who put in synthetic oil and had small leaks and went back to regular oil and the leaks went away. No it does not cause leaks, but it has a better chance of going past seals that are questionable, also it is suppose to effect seals differently, I think regular oil can cause seals to expand a little from what I have read. So I guess those trucks that started to leak and then stopped once the regular oil was put back in is some sort of placebo effect. So I still say if you notice a leak just switch back. It will not harm anything that is for sure.

Synthetics are great if you run frequently. They have good lubricating properties and heat stability. Do not use them if you only run your rig occasionally-they do not have good "wetting" properties with metal(it's a carbon thing) If the machine sits idle for more than a week(say) the lubricant will have completely left the area--you will be starting up 'dry'. May take some time for the wear to show up, but it will.
