Just brought home a 2018 Premium model. Noticed that it has gold coolant in it. Had a detailed clean carfax from dealer i purchased it from and the only listed item that may result in gold coolant was a thermostat replacement about 4k miles ago, other than that, nothing in the carfax or club lexus history about the cooling system being disturbed. I am wanting to switch back to asian coolant. How many times should i drain the radiator, reservoir, and both block drains and replace and cycle with distilled water before it would be safe to refill with pink coolant?

I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be along shortly, but I just drained my radiator, overflow bottle, and passenger side block drain and I got out about 2.5 gallons. I was expecting a little more. What came out looked like it was in very good shape so I didn't worry about any further drain/fill cycles. If you're swapping coolant types I'd go to the trouble of accessing the driver's side block drain, refill with distilled water, run it, and repeat at least once or until it comes out pretty clear before the final fill. Measure what you take out so you know how much concentrate to put in. I believe the whole system should hold about 4 gallons.

As a side note, I went to the Lexus dealership to buy coolant and they only had 50/50 pink premix available. I didn't feel like hunting around or looking into it further, but they said the concentrate was discontinued. I feel like I've read about guys here on IH8Mud getting the concentrate recently.

To my knowledge the Toyota Super Long Life Coolant is only available as a pre mix 50/50. I'm a mechanic for Toyota Material Handling and they just started using the Sllc in the latest fork lifts. Pink vs Red and they told me via tech support to not mix brands without a complete replacement so no top offs despite what the aftermarket brands state.

I would just drain it and fill with the pink and see how it looks, I read too many people going crazy flushing over and over again.
Maybe twice max IMO.

I'm not sure how the rear heater is integrated either so there could be a procedure to do this correctly and if any air bleeding maybe required.

Part number is 00272-SLLC2

Coolant capacities dual and rear 3 zone HVAC

I wanted to flush mine with distilled water at 100k miles, but decided not to since 50/50 premix is all that’s available in super long life. I bought 6 gallons. I drained everything I could out of the radiator, tank and two block drains, then filled it back up and ran the heaters in all zones for several miles and quite a bit since then. I plan to drain another gallon and fill with each oil change until I’ve used the 6 gallons. Since what I drained out looked brand new, I’m ok with having replaced most of the coolant.
I think you could do something similar if you don’t want to take it to a dealership.

I'm a little confused, did you do a double flush, or planning to do a second flush shortly?

Single drain and fill, and I’ll continue to change a gallon or so at a time when I change my oil.

I ended up draining the overflow tank, radiator, and both block drains and getting 2.5 to 3 gallons out each time and refilling with distilled water for 3 cycles. I drove around with all heat zones on and fan speed low for about 20 miles each cycle. Then drained and filled with 3 gallons on pink coolant 50/50. I know i am heavy on distilled water, but going to drive for the week and then do another drain and fill this weekend and probably the next weekend as well, then i should be close to winter protection levels. Pretty straightforward and easy to do.
