I've always said, with enough cutting and welding, ANYTHING is possible. I'd love for the main tube to be almost touching the bumper if I can.

I'm going to play with the easy fixes first, and see where it gets me without modification. If I have to modify it, I'll go whole hog at it until I get it all the way to the bumper. We'll see how it goes.

I agree that if you want to do real custom work you could achieve that.

I am not sure why they recommend a minimum depth on the hitch tongue going into the hitch receiver.

is it because that wedge needs to be protruding out the back of the recover in order to truly lock up? doesn't seem like that should be the case...

maybe it's over cautious engineering / specification

Also an option is the LFD. I’d buy one immediately if it was tow rated like the Hitchgate, but they are not. Still a great product…I just tow too much during the year (camper). It would probably be fine, but I’d need reassurance. @cosport has pics from his LC.

I am in the planning stages for a hitch mounted swing rack. I have an older Kuat pivot, works OK but is heavy and could be improved.

Take a look at the following companies if you want to buy a rack or get ideas for a build:

Westcott Designs
RIG'D Supply
Wilco Offroad

4xInnovations has a lot of good bumper/rack parts under their DIY Parts page if you go the route of building yourself.

Here is a pic of my rack that I added some attachments to bring the motorcycle carrier up and closer to the truck body. I also built a support arm to attached to the outer hitch frame to support the swingout when open (and closed) as my dirt bike is close to exceeding the swingout capacity.

This is exactly what I want on my LX570! I have at TW200 at about 275 lbs and want access without pulling the bike.
