My wife and I were returning from a lunch date when we heard a skid and were hit from behind while at a stoplight. It was a solid jolt, perhaps 10mph tops.

A young man and lady driving a Ford Maverick acknowledged that he was texting and didn’t see me stopped.

My bumper didn’t have a scratch and wasn’t pushed out of alignment. His hood is buckled and pushed toward the windshield slightly (looks like the spare hit his hood).

We swapped info, and another driver stopped (appreciated) and gave me his phone number since he saw the whole thing.

Ironically, the young lady (passenger) whined while texting of course—“your big tire bumper is why our hood is smashed. So unnecessary and extra.”

I smiled, chucked, and walked off—thankful that I wasn’t on my motorcycle at that moment.

I’m thankful for the Slee rear (and ARB Summit front)—as I’m 100% sure a stock bumper/bumper cover would have been damaged by the impact.

Wow. I have always wondered how my Slee rear bumper would handle someone running into the back of it. Not much clearance between the Slee jerry can holder and spare tire carrier with the truck body, especially the rear tail lights. Glad everyone is unharmed and thank you for your service.

Thank you. Likewise, thankful that no one was injured.

I only install my jerry can holder for adventure trips (water), as I have a 40 gal LRA auxiliary tank.

As you know, the jerry can holder sticks out further than the tire—so it would likely have been the first point of contact for this impact (driver side of his hood).

The beaver step on the tow hitch helps if I inadvertently bump something with lower clearance.
