Hey all,

I have an 80 that's currently running a 1HDT/H151 set up. What would be involved in swapping the H151 with a H152?

Cursory searching seems to indicate that maybe the H151 output shaft needs to be swapped over. It's hard to find info other than auto to manual swaps. Lol.

Is this part number the current incarnation of the H152 and would it be what I want: 33030-60C51

Will my H151 bell housing bolt to the above transmission?

Is the H152 dimensionally any different than the H151? (ie: would different driveshafts be necessary)

Thanks!

All you need is the input shaft and input shaft retainer from an H150/151 and also a new input shaft bearing.
The bell housing from your H151 will bolt right up.
Dimensionally the transmission is the same from what I know.

Yes, 33030-60C51 is the correct number you're after. Available at a US dealer near you even!

I just finished converting an H152 to fit behind a 1HDT in my HZJ79 truck.

There's a few threads out there in the 70 series section outlining this swap.

That's a really good price!

I went from an R151F to the H152. I find 1st to be a lot lower, almost unnecessary for city driving. The biggest gain by far is the significant reduction in RPM when cruising at 100km/hr. I used to be in the 2250-2300 RPM range, now I am barely at 2000.

Matt

Input 33301-60060
Retainer 33131-60070
Bearing 90363-50012
Input seal 90311-35023
And a tube of red form in place gasket.

May be the same for retainer, but they are $55 from UAE. One can also cut down the vdj retainer but a new one in hand make a faster turn around and keeping the old transmission whole make a resale easy.

There is little market for the vfj parts except Galen uses them for paper towel holders.

Awesome. I see one dealer in the US offering it at around $2600 which seemed too good to be true.

How is the gearing on the H152 for you? Did you have an H151 first to compare it to?
Can you tell me where you looked to find US dealers on H152 gearboxes? I am looking to do the same swap on my 1HDT? Thanks

VDJ input shafts make GREAT paper towel holders. I just bought another H152 from my local dealership and I’m about to do the conversion, maybe even this weekend. Don’t be scared of it. It’s not hard.

What exactly do you tell them? Ive been to two Toyota dealers and gave them the part number and both of them said they were not able to get it and that it was a non import part?

These transmissions have been pulled from US procurement. They are no longer available from a US Toyota dealership. Toyota has pulled the plug on these no matter what documentation you provide them.

They can still be procured from overseas sources within 10-15 days.

do you have any sources to contact that you would recommend?

Shame they aren't available over here anymore. I tried getting one on the black Friday sale. Got cancelled a couple weeks later dealer kept trying but no dice. I imagine shipping from Japan isn't cheap so I haven't tried any other sources yet.
