I have an '84 x-cab with the bucket seats, there in very good condition but Ive seen a bench seat from the same model on craigs list; I'd prefer to have the bench.
are they interchangeable ?
also if I do replace the buckets with the bench, is anyone looking for these seats?
they're tan.

If the bench is from a similar body style pickup (84-88 or 89 4Runner) the it should be a direct swap. I think that most bench seats thru 95 should work for you. It should use the two outermost bolts on eac side to bolt to.

Since your seats are in good shape then I am sure that someone will take them off your hands. Could probably get a few bills for them and the console in good shape, maybe more if in exceptionally good condition.

Also, here is your official welcome to MUD :flipoff2:

Why on earth would you go to a bench seat? Benches don't provide nearly the comfort and hip/back support that a bucket seat will. Maybe a split 60/40 bench might be an option. Anyway, it's your truck. Be happy.

I have owned 2 trucks with bench seats, an 84 reg cab 2wd and a 94 xtra cab 4wd. I absolutely HATED both of those seats, they were very uncomfortable. Don't do it!

I always figured those seats were Toyota getting back at us for winning the war over Japan.

I've thought about doing this to my '85 XtraCab too. Main reason I'd like to do it 'cuz I can legally seat 3 people instead of just two. The SR5 buckets are definitely more comfortable but the bench in my '86 isn't too bad.:)

To each his own, but I'm another one who swapped out the bench for buckets and never looked back - first to a pair out of a Subaru and then to Recaro's.

you got it, I need room for three butts.
the 60/40 ideas interesting Ferg, what am i looking for.

I think those were in non-sr5 extended cab trucks in the early 90's. Not sure if they made them in the late 80's or not. If not finding a tan one might be tough since I am not sure I have ever seen a 89-95 pickup with tan interior... I think the 2nd gen 4runners had tan as an option, but can't say that I have seen a pickup. I am sure they are out there, but thinking about it, I can't say I have ever seen one.

All I can say is those better be some narrow butts...

If I were you, I'd hold onto the buckets. I'd bet there is a chance you'll be switching back down the road.

60/40 = 60% passenger, 40%driver. It's an offset, split bench seat. Some pickups had them, don't know what years though.

My '85 SR5 X-cab had them. They were not very comfortable. If you are near the Pacific Northwest you could have 'em. :) I have 4runner SR5 buckets now.

The 60/40 seats came in 89-95 Toyota US SPEC X-cabs and some single cabs. Seats 3 in front and don't forget the seat belts. It's a direct bolt on with no mods. I had these in most of my minis on 2wd/4wd trucks. I've personally seen them in only grey in color. The tans came in the 96 and up tacos. I did have the tan 1 in my 87 custom cab, but did have to mod the holes.
I used the same seats in 2 different trucks. The seats are tan and came from a 97 taco.

I had a vinyl bench in my '85 PU for 19 years and thought it was plenty comfortable. Slept in that truck a couple times when I was too beat to drive (long distance road trips). My only gripe is that it won't provide the kind of body control you need in some situations off road. Just an alternative view for what it is worth. In the end, the only relevant criterion is whether the bench suits your butt and those of your passengers. GL!

84-95 truck/4runner seats are a direct bolt on. On some trucks that came stock with a bench seat, when converting to bucket seats it might not have the inner nuts for the seat to be bolted down. You will have to provide the nut to secure it down.

Not sure if you got these but I have a nice bench from a 1987... I think its the 60/40 these guys are talking about because part of the bench can fold down into an arm rest. I'd swap it for the buckets you've got if they're decent and they'll fit my '87.

bucket to bench swap

Ok all, Im back asking about bucket to bench swap
will a 92 tacoma bench fit an 84 2wd x-cab truck
also, anyone interested in the buckets?; they're tan, only 64K on the truck
