Hi all,
I am in the process of replacing my suspension with new since the old was getting a bit tired. Now, the question I have is this, if I swap the front springs around to move the front axle forward (2in) will this cause any problems with the front shocks? They will be slanted forward a little instead of being up and down. The reason for moving the axle forward is to be able to clear 35in tires possibly in the future. Any possible problems from the front drive shaft getting over-extended,popping out?
Thanks.

Coldtaco, am I correct that that's Sheldon's old 70? With the old "low lift" Emus? Pretty sure 70 series springs are too long for a 40, I remember Rob Mullen modifying his BJ42 to run 70 Emus about 200 years ago...
What suspension are you replacing it with?

Your steering control rods will try to occupy the same space. one of them will bend or you will violate Newtonian physics. The front shaft will be fine. The shocks will be fine. You can cure the steering rod issue by getting a set of 4X4Labs arms.

redrill the main 2 leaf forward 1" and then you will have the clearence you need with out the headaches...

Japan4x4

I called 4x4Lab and the only thing they could come up with is the kit for the 40 series which would be to replace both arms with the for and aft style like the 40. What I really need is a shorter passenger side arm? I wonder if I redrilled the arm to put the hole back about 2" if this would place unwanted stress on the arm and joint?

ummm, yah, i think that is right...

actually, no, you drill the top 2 spring leafs, not the pad (and not the steering arm)...

I just inverted the second leaf, it does not move it far enough to clear 35s without removing the mud guards. And you have to take a lot of care with the clamps on the rods. 4X4Labs steering arms will work, it moves one rod to the rear. I sell them here so kind of a no brainer for me. I would not drill a hole in the steering arm! That is just a little to booty fab for me. Your tastes may vary.
