Yahtzee game sounds like fun Jim!!!

Thread in electronics about an 'official' ham radio frequency - have we pretty much adopted 146.460 as the official landcruiser/SnT frequency of choice?

The beer exchange idea is an awesome one. Very similar to the Micro Brat fest at the Black Hills a couple ofyears back :)

And, it looks like Metal Tech may bring some suprises out as well :D

BTW, any of the "locals" know about fishing from the pier at Pismo? My boys are chomping at the bit to drown a worm (or crab or squid) but I just need to know when the "best" time is and which tackle to bring :)

Mace, incoming high tide is usually best at the pier, but anytime will work. Those little shad flies, three or four small hooks on a line, are entertaining for the kids.

Brent, 146.460 is good for simplex once you are close, there is a linked 2M repeater going North to Salinas, I forget the frequency at the moment. The Southern approach is still a question, there should be a repeater in the hills above SB that reached from Pismo to Oxnard. Maybe, E9999 will know.

Fishing at the pier can be fun and it's "free." You can catch little fish pretty easily, I forget what they are called (maybe carp?)

In SB - Broadcast Peak 147.000. Eric is checking to see if it's up. There's another one lower on Santa Ynez, but can't remember the frequency. There are several open repeaters in SB county. Bank 6 on my FT-8800 has those repeaters. :)

Is the one in Paso Robles any good? It's the only one on any of my lists for SLO county.

A fishing license is not required for anyone fishing from the Pismo Pier. Sand crabs work great for barred perch. Just drop your line in just out side the surf zone. Also big schools of sardines have been in the area which hit on cut squid.

What sort of tackle?? Med weight spinning gear with 8 lb test or so?

I have a surf rod as well for heavier stuff..

Sign in game should be fun! Maybe a tad more specific, like find a silver 80 with an ARB front, Kaymar rear and Tradesman rack...? Otherwise too easy. I don't know about the pink panties and FJCs, though... questionable crowd? bad enough that there are all these 100s around... sheesh.... :D

(I'll only charge $5 per signature and don't come for it at night, dangit...! :D)

The light tackle will work fine for the barred perch and smelt. I'd bring your surf rod too in case something bigger is biteing (like sharks). Avila pier is known for it's halibut if you want to drive a few more miles north. Here is a good link;

What is the toileting situation like out there?
Ive heard some horror stories about the port o crappers over flowing in the past.
Is anyone bringing a pett system or anything?

This is VERY IMPORTANT info I need!

Thanks,

Chicago

Bad news. All the rumors are true. There is a pit toilet at the milepost that has to service basically everyone. Some do set up pit toilets. Guys have it pretty easy at night-stroll down to the surf line and.....

It's harder for the women. If you have a pett and a tent, that's a good option, or stay at a hotel in town.

No more port-a -potties. They are vault toilets; basicaly a cement septic tank with a couple of restrooms on top. They are often occupied so I would bring your own pett system.

Motels/Hotels?

What cheapie Hotels/Motels are in the area? There's a Motel 6 in the area, but I'm not really familiar with how far from SNT.

Thanks

We've stayed at the Motel 6 before. It's a few miles south of the Grand Ave. offramp, which in turn is a few miles from the beach. Add in the drive back and forth down the beach a couple of times a day and you'll wish you'd just camped in the sand.

Or not.

Potty talk

I'm surprised to hear the reports on the toilets that's not been my experience. State Parks maintenance service them regularly. I'll give them a heads up (no pun intended) that usage may be higher than expected. There's no way the permanent vault toilets are overflowing. There are two of these near Pole 6. Plus, they have had a few porta-potties there too, those can be pretty gross and I'm not sure if they will still be there.

There are about 10 individual flush toilets near the Pier Ave (and Grand Ave) ramp. Brick building just North of the Kiosk. You can drive to it on the beach (highway legal rigs only North of Pole 2).

Plus, the :princess: can usually talk someone (another :princess:) with a trailer into sharing the facilities. ;)

There are also pay showers at a small City Campground a couple blocks off the beach. Kinda of a well kept secret.

Camping on the beach is FUN!

ordered stuff

totally forgot about the shirts, been really busy last couple days.i just put in my order around 11:48 p.m i hope it made the cut off.

thanks jim,i forgot to order some stickers figure you would bring some extra at the beach.

john:D

You're in John. I've just spent the last 2.5 hours entering the orders into my spreadsheet so I can place the order tomorrow morning.

Yes, I ordered extra stickers and dash plaques (longer lead times). I'm also getting some extra shirts, but hopefully not too many. They will be available at the event on first come first serve basis.

THANKS to EVERYONE for supporting Surf N Turf!!!!

It's looking like another record breaking year!

So there are a number of alternatives for when nature calls.
Ive been meaning to pick up one of the PETT toilets for some time, so I guess that now would be a good time.

Does anyone happen to know if the PETT shelter is worth the money?

Thanks for the input all,

Really looking forward to this event even though I wont be bringing the cruiser, but my DD tacoma! Just not near as fun!
