My roof rack removal saga continues :censor:

Tried the blind nuts, no go they are to long to bite into the thin sheet metal, broke the tool trying to force it , ,decided to put regular nuts on, 2 hours later the headliner is removed but I still cannot get to the foreword row (where the blind nuts are stuck) because of the sunroof pan

In the middle of this a college age kid came up trying to hard me sell the Atlanta paper I yelled at him and kicked him of my property now I feel bad for being an a$$hole :whoops:

Looked in the FSM it gets into removing the sunroof but never mentions removing the fiberglass pan, I see a bunch of brackets arround the perimiter of the pan but it looks like there is also stuff bolted to it from the inside

I guess my question is if I remove the pan will the sunroof and its tacks cables and motor stay up there, Or am I opening Pandora box because the pan and mechanism are integrated?

If I they are an assembly, can I take it all out in one piece some how without disturbing the adjustment and really screwing things up?

I need a step 6

The roof glass, motor and tracks are attached to the pan. I am not sure what will happen. Yomama rebuilt his from a roll-over and Christo has had a roof apart. Maybe one of them could chime in.

Ok after reading that I read the FSM again and it is getting a little clearer, gonna give it another go in the morning

gonna try to get the pan out with the motor tracks and cable undisturbed so it will be close to adjustment, I am going to remove the glass to prevent damge and reduce the weight of the assembly

Now you know exactly why I hate that rust-breeding POS rack....I would like to find the dip shiat that designed the damn thing and :ban: his sorry arse

Agreed!

RavenTai,

Did you get your sunroof problem fixed? I have had mine out a couple times now (Pan and all). If you have any questions fire away and I will try and help!

Yomama, I have not taken it out yet I chickened out sunday morning, gonna try it this week or next weekend when I get some time

I guess my biggest question is can I take the pan trackes motor and cables out as a single assembly? I will remove the glass part to keep it safe,

or am I better off taking it apart bit by bit like the FSM calls for and re adjusting it all when it goes back together?

any thing I should know about?

RavenTai,

Here are some suggestions from my experience. The entire headliner needs to come out, take out the visors, all those handles and the moon roof control, then unplug it.
The pan is held in place by those side bolts and you may also notice many shims (mark them some how). Disconnect the hoses from the pan on all four corners. I STRONGLY suggest that you have someone help you when you actually drop the pan, even without the glass in (you said you were taking that out) the assembly is fairly heavy and ackward for one person, you will most likely break off those tabs that hold the pan in place if you don't have help.

Are you pulling the pan to get at holes from your roof rack?

When I replaced my roof panel I looked at the roof rack and said....Nope I ain't drilling holes in a good roof, now a 4" hole in the fender for a snorkel.....thats OK!!

Let me know why you are doing this and maybe I can offer more.
