Sunroof leak

Mine was dripping too, original, on my 2000 LX470.

Moved to Colorado this year, had the dealer here inspect it, and for a few hundred bucks (literally, not much), they replaced the entire seal, adjusted the alignment of the sunroof, and it's good to go. Cost far less than I expected, and the newer seal is a bit different and "clicks" when it shuts.

I can confirm that is it leaking through the plastic gap. I can see outside light through the gap from inside the vehicle. I've sealed it with RTV and will see how it holds up in the car wash this week, though this doesn't feel like a very permanent fix. I'm contemplating buying a used sunroof from Ebay and taking a chance that it doesn't have the same problem.

Same place mine was leaking. I flexseal'd and put silicone all over it and was still getting some water intrusion but then all of a sudden it stopped.

Having same issue as @2RM and @Lazarus556 , got some black silicone RTV to do a seal on the plastic gap. The roof tends to hang on the seal on the drivers side when returning from the tilt up position. It seems like maybe the plastic trim has lost some adhesion and almost like it needs to be 'clamped' back to seal this gap.

How has the RTV in the plastic crack area helped others???

This might help...

So my leak had stopped at one point and then started back up again. Thats with me running clear silicone around the sunroof opening and where the glass is as well. I've just kinda learn to live with it since its not every time it leaks and its just like drops not pouring in. If anyone comes up with a new solution let me know. As it stands now down the road I might end up taking it to the dealer and paying whatever they charge to get it fixed

Mine, after doing this, ended up being the windshield seal that was leaking more. Sunroof was a drip, but windshield was the culprit found after. Next step.

Sorry to bring back a dead post but have you guys figured out the issue? My leak is coming from the plastic and weather strip gap that @2RM posted. I was also thinking of putting some silicone or rtv in there and up top. The leak is actually going on my gf so I definitely need to get this fixed asap before the rain comes. Plus when I take the LC up to Mammoth or Big Bear when it snows. I can get some pics of what I’m dealing with. I’ve snaked the drain holes, done the water test. I know i do have a pic somewhere of a water droplet coming from that gap.

I also had the leak from that gap, and was able to cure it by sealing the gap. I don't think you can adequately address the leak without removing the sunroof and the rubber seal first. To cure it, I pulled back the plastic slightly (the adhesive holding it in place was loose on each side of the "crack" for a couple of inches), cleaned the glass, and resealed as best I could with 3M weatherstrip adhesive. When it was back in place, I made sure to seal the gap all the way through the "J" hook it has to hold the rubber seal. Mine has stayed dry for the last 18 months, through heavy rains.

I went looking for pictures of when I did this, and I remembered the 3M adhesive did not do a good job of sealing that crack. I ended up using the black adhesive to hold the plastic to the glass, but used normal silicone caulk to seal the crack itself.

Good to know. I will give it a shot and hope for the best. Kinda annoying how this tiny hole is even there 😂

I will try to just fill the “crack” with some silicone first and then wait for the next rain/snow day. Thanks for the tip @Bisho 👍🏽

Any recommendations for silicone? I was going to go to autozone to see if they have a smaller silicone tube to use.

I don’t recall what I used. It was likely clear silicone from Lowe’s that I’d use around the house.

Hi everyone,

Looks like I ran into the same issue here too after a few days of rain here in CA. I noticed that there was a small drip coming from the sun roof from the edge facing the back of the vehicle.

I took off the trimming and noticed water marks. At this point I am leaning towards resealing with silicone unless there is any other suggestions for an alternative fix by the community. Not looking to replace the whole sun roof if possible.

Also even if I change the seal, is that even a do it yourself project? Also for resealing, any particular suggestions to brand or type of silicone?
