Hi Guys,

Anyone come up with a fix for this without taking out the whole sun roof cassette? I’m worried about causing other damage removing it. Thank you

Is the top backing piece pushed down so that it caused this to drag and rip?

The shade is formed so that it has an arch in it to follow the roof's arch, leaving enough clearance so it doesn't drag. Assuming this arch is still there, then it's a matter of straightening things out, applying glue and pushing up with pressure until it's dry.

If the arch is broken down, then the fix is going to be more difficult.

I'd consider a spray adhesive for the bulk of that flap. Spray on both sides (panel and fabric flap), buy higher quality adhesive if you can find it, etc. You also need to re-adhere the area towards the front of the loose flap as it looks like it's de laminating also. You can read up on Google about headliner repair and get some ideas there. Temperature rating of the adhesive is a factor, prepping (cleaning) surfaces may be necessary for better adhesion and it may be tricky to get the flap back in it's original position and wrinkle free. Better to pull it a touch too long and have to trim a bit of extra off than to have it short with the gap/crack exposed. You could paint the gap/crack to match if there is one but it will be noticeable.

It will be visible but after the spray adhesive a thin, clear liquid that dries hard may make sense over the exposed edges to help them avoid getting peeled back again. Perhaps a thin epoxy, minimal super glue or something similar could work if it seems necessary.

I'd make sure you've addressed whatever may be in the roof causing that damage. Always possible someone damaged that from inside the truck or could be something in the roof and you want to figure that out.

If you have a later 80 the headliner isn't too hard to remove. Could give you a chance to clean the whole headliner, check cross-brace adhesive, remove factory roof rack, add insulation and/or sound deadening, etc. You could also fix anything damaging that cover/panel and install a used replacement sliding panel or rebuild/recover the one you have. If you rebuild/recover you could have fun and replace the fuzzy liner with a different cloth that you prefer, a paper map topcoated for protection or??

Use this headliner adhesive and follow the directions.

Use painters tape to cover areas on the headliner so you don't get adhesive overspray on everything.

3M Headliner Adhesive

Good detailed advice from the above, especially the 3M adhesive rec.
