I hear ya the probs can be a downer but hang in there the rewards when it all gets sorted out are somehow sweeter when you've paid your dues!:)

I can't tell if the fuel in the bowl is too low or too high to see it. If it is too high, would that cause gas to pour into the secondary? What if the fuel return line going from the carb to the fuel tank was blocked, would that cause the float to rise too high?
 
I have had that exact problem before. The fitting on the return line has a small orifice in it that can get clogged. When mine got clogged the bowl overfilled and fuel overflowed into the carb throat. Pull the return fitting and check the orifice by blowing through it. It's easy enough to clean with carb cleaner and high pressure air.
