I would like to extend the wheel base on my fj 40, by moving the rear axle back 6 to 8 inches. I was thinking of tunring the rear hanger's around and moving them all the way back to rear bumber. I have been looking on this site and have not seen any thing like that. Does anyone have any ideas? What size springs and what ever parts might be needed?:wrench::bang:

I did this to my 40. Click on "Snotz" in my sig and check out pages 3 and 4 of my build, I made my own brackets and shackles and purchased builder balls for my upper mounts (trying something different) :)

Good luck.

I am thinking of doing the same thing to my 40 and I have been looking around for ideas as well. BTF sells a nice rear bumper that already has the rear mounts for the springs welded on. The bumper is designed for use with xj springs and will utilize the stock front mount. I spoke with Dan at BTF and he told me that I could expect to get around 6" stretch with the use of this bumper and xj spring. Just an option.

I would like say thanks, because I am new at this. I built my L/C from a basket case. I have been working on it for 12+ years, it works good but I would like to have a longer wheel base. In just 2 days, I've gotten more good information from this thread, on how to to that. Anymore input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again.

Rear Hanger Reversal

I was under my 40 this morning looking for the easiest way to move my axle back a few inches to center it in the wheel well and I kept looking at the rear spring hanger and thinking of why I had not seen anyone else turn it around? I figured since I am new at this there was probably some obvious reason. My current plan is to turn the rear hanger around and mount it in the same location, move the other hanger back a comparable distance and use 2 1/2" lift springs. This sounds like what you are talking about just not as far back. I will keep watching your thread to see how yours turns out! Good Luck!

I pushed my diff back 5", and front forward 1"....Rear shackles mounts hang slightly out past the stock rear bumper, mainly due to the length of my custom springs.

Am currently in the process of tidying up the rear guard cut, and will be installing some tube style rear flares. More pics and details can be found in the my buildup thread (link in signature)

Did you get the info you were looking for and if so how did you decide to proceed? What springs are you going to use?

not sure what springs to use. I got some 1/2 ton chevy springs, iam going to check them out this weekend. The cruiser decided to give me some other thing to work on.
