Sometimes when driving the 1993 FZJ80 if we are on a rough road or go over rail road tracks there is this god awfull noise coming from the front end that sounds like rubber rubbing rubber. I cant find any marks on the tires that would show they are rubbing somewhere and I dont see anything that is around the driveshafts that could be causing it. When it happens the noise lasts 10-15 seconds and then everything goes back to normal. The truck just turned 116500 miles last week and as of this time I dont think the Birfields have ever been repacked. I am collecting the parts to repack and replace the wheel bearing but was not planning on diving into the project until it warms up round here(March?). Anyone ever have anything like this happen before? Words of wisdom from the crowd? Thx--Steve

Not so strange there Steve ;). I have it recorded if you'd like to be sure it's the same, but I'd bet the farm it is. Not to bad to do, took me about 4 hours to do both sides, but I have air tools and a garage. SInce that thread I haven't had the problem.

If you wouldnt mind I would kinda like to hear the sound file you have just to be sure its the same noise. I dont have air and the garage aint heated so this is going to have to wait until March when the temps come up a tad :'( Doesnt sound like it's too bad a job to tackle though, which is nice :D
