Well I finally build my platform and I'm quite pleased with the results. A little info on it, I made the frame out of "runners" or "dryers", these are the 4' long pieces of wood that are attached to the bottom of a bunk of lumber you find at any lumber store. I got these for free, just went in and they told me to the all I wanted. The top is 1/2" plywood and the box is made out of 3/4" plywood. I used the grey indoor outdoor carpet from lowes.

The sides are removable in the back and held in place with Velcro. I did modify the bottom from the original pictures and you'll see that in a few posts.

The rough framing with the drawer in, the inside of the drawer, and then a picture to give you an idea of the size of the box. I do plan on adding some dividers once I figure out what all I'm gonna carry.

As you can see I took out the bottom cross members and the drawer slides on 2 side pieces, this allows the two front pieces of plywood that go where the back seat folds down to slide up under the box when not in use. The second picture is the front of the box that will be against the back of the seat. The third pic are the supports that hold the side pieces, this allows the sides to be as sturdy as the main body.

Now that it is built it's time to put the carpet on, I used 3M 77 adhesive spray. The second and third pics are showing what the drawer slides on. I decided to add a lil more wood to help carry the weight of the drawer. I am going to try just wax to help the sliding of the drawer, if that's not enough I will probably go with some type of roller.

The box is in and fits perfect, need to add a pair of recessed handles. I bought the extra strength Velcro, it held so good it pulls it right off the wood so I used thumb tacks to hold it down...they were free too.

The box with the sides on, and then the whole platform layed out. I debated on several different ways on how to help support the front and a buddy came up with the idea of using the seat. I attached the plywood to the wood crossmember with a set of recessed 1/4-20 brass threads and bolts..some are a little off and it's kind of a pain, so I am going to try some of my extra strength Velcro and it should hold fine plus it'll be a lot quicker in the set up. And I can Velcro it to the metal piece on the seat for stability. On the right hand side I cut the board so it wouldn't go all the way up against the door, this gives me a step down in and out of the door.

The crossmember keeps the platform off the back seat. Front part of platform fits under drawer. Third pic with the back seat up.

I love this set up. I have been wanting to do something similar in the back of my 60/ Does the drawer slide fairly easily or do things slide around and make alot of noise?

Thanks man, I'm putting handles on it tonight so it should be easier to pull out, but I don't have any problem pushing it in. And I don't have the box loaded up but the stuff I have in there has stayed put. I'm goin camping this weekend and I'm kind of expecting some movement but it'll also give me a good idea on how I want to compartmentalize it.

That really turned out nice ! It'll be interesting to see how it slides loaded up. Maybe some teflon strips if it needs help ? Thanks for sharing !

very nice!! some bees wax would help on the lower runners to move things along

That looks really good! Wonder how much weight that added.

That is awesome.... I love it. :)

Thanks, Cody Sent from my iPad using IH8MUD

NICE job. do you have any templates to share, may have to duplicate this...

Thanks for the kind words guys...this is a pic of the type of handles I installed....they work really well and with it loaded down it slides pretty easy, I do think I'm gonna try some wax to help with pushing it back in. I don't have any templates, I pretty much fit the frame to fit between the wheel wells and from the back seat to the tail gate, then when I got it together I measured out the dimensions for the deck and side pieces and then measured the inside dimensions from there to make the box. There isn't much wiggle room which is what I was going for. I'll see if I can get some pics with dimensions to give ya an idea.

I did use it this past weekend camping and it worked out great, my son and I slept on the deck and I was able to store our gear under the platform where the back seat folds down. I'll have to take some pictures, but instead of using bolts to attach to the crossmember I had some extra strength Velcro and it worked like a champ and made assembly and disassembly a lot easier.

Nice job.....looks good and more importantly, useful.

I know you would never roll your truck, or stop suddenly. But did you happen to bolt the thing to the truck? I didn't, one long off road down hill the front seats were not happy.l
