maybe he had a key. word on the street is there are only 16 variations of keys for the 60 series. After so many years of wear, probably more than one key would work the locks/ignition...

EDIT: In retrospect, this information is probably not correct. It's unverified information being passed around various forums. But it does seem the standard locks that came with the FJ60 are not much of a theft deterrent.

I called a few people to keep an eye open for the 60.
I had a short day so drove through the dog patch, mission, and potrero hill and nothing.

It was driven away from my house - I heard it. not sure how he got it started (screw driver, hotwire, etc.) or how he got the club off the steering wheel. I think it was someone familiar with Land Cruisers.
Not sure it's someone familiar with land cruisers in specific but old Toyota's in general. There are only so many combinations of keys that a worn out one might start another vehicle.

Not again? This is getting stupid, sorry to hear for your loss your rig looks exactly like mine but mine is in my driveway.
I will keep my eyes open on the East bay I drive from Castro valley to Pittsburg daily so i cover a lot of grounds.

Thank you Chelo. Really appreciate it. I’ve been driving around Bayview, soma, ballpark, etc. Hoping to get lucky 🤞

I am curious as well, I have opened several 60/62 with my key but only one of them I got to start. Is there any replacement cylinder and tumblers?

I had to do an estimate in Hayes Valley and kept an eye open. Later I picked up my wife at work on van ness and went sightseeing through the tenderloin but I didn't see a thing.
When my brothers 80 got stolen, it was parked parallel in potrero hill with no gas. It took us about 1 week to find and my nephew was the one who found it. No damaged locks in the ignition or doors.

Hi Matt. In honesty, I'm not exactly sure. There have been diffrent numbers thrown around in the past. I follow your key threads so you might know better.
Matt I will show you a picture of my 80 door key.

Sightseeing in the tenderloin…definitely a world class attraction.

I really appreciate it. Thanks for looking out.

reason i asked those specific questions is because :

, well........ i ain't naming names , that's NOT how i roll ........

BUT !

i saw a recent 60 series tech thread where this fellow outlined in detail how to take lets just say a " DEVICE " , and pop the rear hatches of 60 , 61 , and 62 's

in great step by step detail i may add !

i HAWKED this thread close for a few days and saw how many VIEWS it had going on and all , and comments too inside thread posts other then the Thread stater

i was very very surprised at first that the MODs would overlook such a thread that gave FSM type step by steps and pics too showing how to in great detail simply

Break into any 60 series globally in that particular Fassion ?

- i then got a bit agitated because any time i get asked to get involved in a Forced entry 60 series LOCKs Cylinders and Keys codes job it is always a royal pain in

my Teq az# ....

- i take some ones / ANY ones toyota vehicle's factory key code a very important topic and well serious Level of both mutual trust and a level of responsibility too

- i do NOT store them on my NipponDenso SST machine hard drive tablet thing

- i do not record them in any way

- i make and take great care NEVER to show one any in all the hundreds or maybe thousands of Technical Photos i share with great pride and a humble knowing too

one night after , like more Latrobes then i should have Saturday cut loose style , i popped into that STUPID POOR use of that dudes lack of any foresight or good

judgement at all in my opinion to be real wide open klear hear ......

and i clicked the REPORT Tab icon in the tread starters 1st initial post , this is like a week or so after it was initially posted to be clear .

- i started to well Report it as Inappropriate content , and said it will lead to folks 60 series getting stolen or simply all there Overland Camping gear and nice REI

personal belongings winding up at PON shops or EBAY ?

then i got gun shy for some reason , and stopped typing and simply left that DUMB thread , i never popped in again ....

i feel real Naive right now for not having the ba##s to follow thu on what i knew was the right thing to do ?

after reading your sad post words above now this evening .........

thanks for letting me share ...

matt :)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

some reassuring Positive TECH to all who may fret about a topic mentioned above

BTW there are :

- 6 Tumblers or Wafers inside ALL 60 series LOCK and KEY cylinders

- each can have 1 of ONLY 4 possible CUT depth's

- there are exactly 4, 570 Different and UNIQUE to its own key codes in the 60 / 62 series K series LOCKS and TR-33 double edge cut kays everyone has the same here

- the K series Codes start a K-0001 and go in numerical order to K-4570

this is a 1 in 4,570 to 1 chance u can open another 60 with other 60's K series keys

- HOWEVER :

it was super smart thinking of @chelo above to bring up the worn Keys topic , because that is Fact and the main reason i do NOT repair or restore old locks typically

unless its a unicorn HJ or BJ with a GLOW feature stop i cant get parts for replace it any longer in any way shape or form

- my simple anti lock cylinders wear advice prescribed is WD40 brand WD-40 , then after a long soak and rotational in and outs like 30 times each lock cylinder

then switch over to T-9 BOE-SHIED product and apply in shutter door with the red straw liberally

it repels dirt and moisture at and with SPACE AGE results long term

its simply NOS in a can for life !

or

Existing Condition Preservation for life in a can hands DOWN !

- NEVER use Grandmas Graphite powder or liquid form it harms delicate Teq vintage lock internals in ways i do not fully understand ?

its a urban legend thing and wise tail like the Loch Ness Monster and BIG FOOT in reverse and F's stuff up , not to mention stains good cloths and 60 series fabric TWEED upholstery

- PLEASE take a moment and service all your locks like i prescribe above in detail , it will serve you well long term i prommis

i think on a closing note :

all should be HYPER AWARE of :

- as of 2- 09 -2022 / 12:58 EST .........

- the FJ60 Ignition Lock Cylinder 69057-90A06 disc/ nla

- 60 / 62 Passenger side front door LOCK cylinder 69052-90A06 disc/ nla

- the 60/62 FUEL door Lock cylinder 69058-90A02 disc/ nla

- the FJ62 Rear Power Actuated push button Lock cylinder 69055-90A12 disc/ nla

- - ALL above are globally Disc. / NLA to best of my knowledge , if anyone knows different please PM me right away .... thanks

- i have NOT seen a drivers side front door 60 / 62 in a long long time , but its NOT NLA / DIS. YET , COVID MIA i think ? 69051-90A06

- ALL above are globally Disc. / NLA

- this leaves the Fj62 Ignition Lock Cylinder

- and the FJ60 Push button manual linkage type the ONLY 2 locks still available to us ,,,,

- SOR.com offers a OLD OEM TOYOTA CRESSIDA wagon Ignition lock cylinder 69057-22041 however it uses and comes with a TOTALLY different profile TOYOTA Key called a TR-37

- this is a ODD use of Available Vintage Toyota Cressida parts , to solve NLA / Disc. land cruiser parts ?

it renders the ignition keys useless in any other locks and all 5 other tr-33 locks including a fj62 locking glove box useless with a new oem Toyota Cressida ignition lock ?

but desperate times are ahead for available 60 and 62 Oem Toyota genuine Locks and Keys related parts .......

- i WILL be making a new form of TECH video as soon as i can find a LOYAL 62 owner whom needs a new rear push button lock :

- i have mapped out in detail how to simply Install a FJ60 8/80-9/87 analogue manual push lock assy into a 8/87-1990 power actuated receiver tailgate

its MOD free and user friendly install steps are the FJ62LG-PNEA 's Future know that ........

at least there is a future here , and im grateful for just that ! :)

THIS IS THE WAY ..........

I GOT HER BACK! I'm grateful to report that My FJ60 was found today and she's back home. Got the call from SFPD this afternoon. Thankfully other than ransacked glovebox, console and a few random tools missing, she was in the same shape when she left. As far as how she was stolen - no signs of forced entry on door (thinking slim jim), hatch, etc. and no sign of damage around ignition key. Its like the thief had the extra key I've been meaning to have made for the last 6 months.

Thank you all for the words of encouragement and a special shout at to @chelo for driving around some pretty spicy parts of SF looking for my rig. Last few days have been very stressful and I've been playing a lot of shoulda, woulda, coulda on how I could have done a better job preventing this. Thanks for the all the tips, suggestions on theft prevention. I'm glad I'm getting a second chance to implement them. I got lucky getting mine back in one piece.
