What are you running for a kill switch? Thinking one is in order for my 60.
What am I running? I really don't know as my mechanic installed it. It's hard to find and I have to be actually sitting in the drivers seat to locate it up above my left knee. It's a toggle switch. When it's in the safety position and you try to start the car.....nothing. Absolute silence. The one on the 40 cranks but won't start....I actually like that better. A thief would think that it was non running and might not go looking for a kill switch.

Sorry I can't be more specific but seriously, anyone reading this with a cool old Land Cruiser without a switch needs to make this a priority. If you don't do it you may not have a truck around to do all the other mods you were going to do before the switch. As these age and there are fewer of them around the problem will only become worse. Really cheap insurance.......

Pick something that no one sees you operate if you're being watched. An old school hi/lo headlight dimmer for example. I've also used
a hi amp contactor (solenoid) that interrupts power to the starter current cable. The system turns of but all they hear is a solenoid
clicking. No current gets to the starter motor until the solenoid is actuated. That's a little more involved but it prevents people from
bypassing the ignition with a screwdriver at the starter solenoid

I'm In socal. So will keep an eye out. Contacted my people in CO to keep an eye open. Also posted on FB.

I hope that they just took this for a joy ride, check with your local police if something was found and also call local tow yards that might have found it and can't locate you.

best of luck! hopefully it will be found just missing the tires and wheels.

we had the wife's(than girlfriend) 88 fj62 stolen 14 years ago(wow time flies) and we got it back(found by my Toyota parts guy on his way home)........and in the end(took about a year) sent dozen of people to jail ;) long crazy story......but they stole the wrong chicks Cruiser!

needless to say, our Cruisers are pretty well protected now.

there are something like 36 different key cuts for most all 1980's Toyota's....... they are stupid easy to steal.

Thanks guys, much appreciated. Just installed the ravelco switch on my other cruiser yesterday. Hoping that does the trick for that one, but still holding out hope my 62 shows up somewhere. I know the police are busy with other crap but they are useless for me thus far. Apparently it hasn't even been assigned to anyone yet.....

Did you do the install on that?

I did not, you have to be a licensed installer to get the system from my understanding. I'm assuming you are wondering if the shop that installed it may do something fishy, and I guess anything is possible (although the ravelco manufacturer only sends two keys which I have both for and not even the shop can make another supposedly), but I have another kill switch in a locked box along with a tracking unit. I've gone a bit overboard now after the 62 incident.

This is literally my worst nightmare. I can't go anywhere without somebody complimenting my FJ62. Gas stations, dropping the kids at school, restaurants, etc. It's flattering and I love to talk about it to folks, but it scares me at the same time. Gonna look into the Ravelco kill switch and I also want a GPS locator. What are you using? I hope she finds her way home.

Sweet truck!
I use Google's cell service called project fi for my phones. They sell a data only Sim card for free and it just charges based on how much data it uses, so I stuck that in an old cell phone and keep it locked up in the truck and can track the phone as needed without having to pay any monthly fees.

Sorry to hear of your loss brother, I'm in the Black Hills just 5 hours north or so...perfect place to watch for it and I check daily.
Im in the same boat since there aren't many around here, lots of attention and questions everywhere...planning some security
measures today!

Looking at all that gear on your truck really makes me miss the utility of mine. I had mine strapped down with 3 kayaks on the roof this summer going from rapid to rapid. These trucks look best to me when performing as an activity mule.

Your comment is very much appreciated. It's been a few weeks now so my hopes that it was just a joy ride and would be found in short order have faded, but who knows. The more eyes the better. I hadn't mentioned it on here yet but I also have a reward of $1k for it here locally which only makes sense to extend to the mud community, so keep those eyes peeled y'all!

I have to say, having a data only sim card in an old phone locked in my 40 has given me a lot more of a feeling of security knowing it is easily just as big a target as the 62 was. My new obsession is checking every few hours while at work to make sure it is still in the parking lot. I highly suggest it as a cheap/free way to track down your truck via satellite/cell tower should the worst happen.

Is it like the find my iphone app that shows the location of the truck

Never had an iphone so not sure, but it is the standard android app that google has to track down all of its devices, or lock them or make them make a noise if they are lost. This is the link or just google "google find my device". Essentially shows you where the phone is in google maps.

Has anyone used/designed any self powered gps tracking unit? I store a car in a barn offsite from my house for the winter, and wanted to know if there is anything out there that can sit out there for 3-4 months at a time? I see a lot of junk out there on amazon.

still keeping my eyes out for @satchel 's 62!
