does somebody have a part number or link for the 'Racer 65' 16" wheel? cant seem to find em

I’m very happy with my Racer 65 wheels. Even with big knobby KM3 mud terrains they all balanced out with about 2-2.5 oz.

My only wish was that he’d gone with a slightly wider rim with the reproductions. Like 7-8 inches to keep the variety of compatible tires broad.

Given our litigious society, I’m having a hard time finding tire shops that will mount tires outside the specified range.

Thanks, took me a minute but I finally found him. Double the cost of 15s, bummer. Is it worth it? Really want to put on the km3 7.5s

At least he’s local for me...

Double the cost of stock, but less than buying stock and widening them at Stockton. If I’d had stock 15’s already I would have spent the money on a 2.5in lift and bought 33x10.5r15’s instead.

It’s all up to what you want for your truck and what fits your budget. I definitely didn’t WANT to spend $1500 on wheels and shipping but I saw it as a “buy once, cry once” sort of deal. It ensures there will be tall, skinny tire options available in the near future.

If you don’t care about stock hubcaps, just get something like the wheels @bwalker16527 got - they look good, get you into the same tires, and the whole set costs less than one city racer wheel!

No, I need the stock hub caps.

The Holy Grail of FJ40 wheels and tires?

^^more fuel for the fire

Back when I drove it in the 90s it Had 31 10 50s. They worked well but I didn’t know any better at that age. When dad took it over after I blew the engine he put on 32s. I came home and took it to Tahoe and it was squirly, steering was a nightmare, now I know why.

Man, seems like a rip-off for basic steel wheels. Supply and demand I guess. Maybe the Aussies have em cheaper? I definitely like the gray finish they put on them.

Not sure why going to a 32” tire would suddenly make the steering squirrelly, it certainly shouldn’t unless you’re fighting loose tie rod ends, a poor alignment, or possibly just bias plys, if you’re not used to their behavior.

As for the cost of the wheel - it’s not pleasant, but I can see a lot of reasons why. This is a custom product, produced in low volume. There’s really very little economy of scale for the manufacturer, so the cost per unit has to be high. They don’t have the advantage of producing tens of thousands of units per run like Toyota did to bring the cost per unit down. You’re also talking a pretty heavy shipment drop shipped from Japan. That, plus supply and demand as you mentioned - it’s a price the market will bare.

Given that an OEM alloy wheel for my 09 Mazda3 is roughly $330 from my local parts house, I didn’t feel like the cost was userous. That doesn’t necessarily mean I loved parting with the money, I can just understand where the pricing comes from...

As for the gray color - that’s something easily changed, if you prefer it, and something you’d need to do with the OEM wheels or the 16” versions. Stock color, worldwide, is gray (except on very early cruisers) but they ship in black from Toyota, regardless of the country you buy them in.
