PS still running great which has been truly a surprise.

On to exhaust sounds.... I'm about tired of the loud exhaust I have...dual in/dual out single magnaflow muffler... Off to the exhaust shop next week to see what can be done to make thinks less noisy.

why don't we put the 40 and 60 and 80 club thread in the sticky section....then no-one has to look around for the "master thread"... just an idea.

hot rod muffler off...new GM style pickup muffler on. Old noises are gone...now I can hear new stuff....minor tire roar and suspension cycling noises over large bumps. Good deal...the old muffler was getting too annoying. Next...got to make headway on the heater core....I"m half the way there..but getting started on the 2nd half has been a mental hurdle.

What did you do with the old mufflers?

was a single muffler...it got abused when removed and then went to trash pile.

Kind of my life story :)

I think it runs better with this new muffler...at least on the low and mid range. My engine is stock except for a few missing emissions related items.

Andy..

You might want to keep your stock type muffler. The replacement of the hot-rod type mangaflow with the pickup OEM type aftermarket replacement muffler has made some positive changes....which I think are from increased back pressure...allowing the 02 sensors to work better.
(1) more responsive power
(2) better civilized engine behavior (no backfiring, no popping in the exhaust from deceleration or from down shifts
(3) observed better fuel economy...have not had time to really check it on the road but appear to be doing better

I don't have any emissions controls and only the front two 02 sensors, PCM is stock tune as far as I know regarding power

I like the new muffler a lot, less noise, more responsive engine..no observed bad manners from the engines/exhaust.

Old muffler dual in dual out 2.5 large magnaflow, new muffler large OEM type aftermarket replacement...3inch in...dual 2.5 out. Running a magnaflow y at the front of the muffler to bring both pipes from exhaust into the muffler, then dual 2.5 out from rear of muffler. So far good experience....can tell from "seat-of-the-pants" better response. Due to exhaust popping and minor backfires from old muffler I'm sure engine was running a little rich, also my assumption that new muffler increases back-pressure and this has a positive impact to the 02 sensors operation and thus the PCM controls the engine more efficiently.

I drove the truck around a good bit this afternoon on the road to see how it runs....never got over 205F on long hill aggressive driving and was smooth and good running...not really connected to the muffler thing...but certainly no observed backfires or exhaust popping.

THe other positive impact is that the sound of the exhaust is not over-bearing.... I hear the tires and other noises now, exhaust is only noticeable on acceleration.

I was thinking of your old muffler for my 40 witch is way too loud for me but I'm to cheap to replace it until it falls off.

yea..I was talking about the 40...thought it had a stock type muffler? Your 62 has the I6 engine right?

Anyway the big OEM GM pickup stock type muffler I have now...is an improvement hands down.

I doubt I could ever fit one of the those big mufflers under the 40.

yeah...forgot about the 40 space issue...you may have no other option but to run something like the small turbo muffler or something.

Sho nuff

motor mount gone bad...?

ok....anyone know of a bolt in solution for suspension bump stops? Any other truck models share the same mount configuration as the 60, toyota or non-toyota?

Its time for me to upgrade the suspension bump stops....and it looks like I'm going to have to get my friend to make me some adapter brackets.... I need some larger bump stops due to suspension lift and my intent to keep the tires out of the wheel wheel (so deep).

It looks like the toyota stock bump stops mount with 12mm head bolts with the center of the bolt head being about 4.25 from each other (2 bolts). Alot of the aftermarket stuff is about 5.25 center to center.

I'm about sold on some roughly 3inch or so daystar or energy bump stops with either the dual bolt mount or the single stud mount....what have others done? I removed the old bump stops yesterday and two of them need to go in the trash anyway...I guess they are worn out after 20+ years. Options? I'm about sold on just making some adapter brackets...I've seen where some people weld on a bracket to the frame, but I'm not sure I'm going that crazy...probably will look at a bolt in solution.

I asked similar question over in the main forum 60 section..

probably "gonna" come up with something like this. Using single stud aftermarket bump stops.... and make the bottom plate with two holes roughly 4.25 center to center to match the mounting points on the frame. Looks like the single stud version of the bump stops will be easier to work with.

honestly when i did SOA, i thought bump stops would be worthless so i just left the stock ones as is. i mean really, what's the point for an offroad rig? don't we want as much flex as possible?

There are at least two issues with no bump stops, your shocks become the stops and too much flex will eventually break leaf springs.

For my purpose I'm trying to limit the upper most travel into the wheel-well, since the body of my truck is stock. I know flex is part of the deal in off-road traction...but I'm really not setup to take advantage of that, as of right now i still have reasonable "road manners" . I figure I have something close to 3.5 inch suspension lift. I'll look into making the brackets as short as I can (to clear the stud on the aftermarket bump stop), and then run something like a 2inch or 3 inch progressive bump stop. I've got those u bolt flip kits installed too....so my target is to hit the top mounting plate of the flip kit..with the stop. I see where Mark's offroad makes some extension brackets for stock bump stops and http://www.northwestoffroad.com/ makes some brackets to adapt to aftermarket bump stops. Just looking on northwest's site I can't say they work on the LC but they seem to be made for toyota stuff in general and from appearances you might just have to drill the holes in the base plate to match your vehicle. I'm not sure if the mount setup is common across the land cruiser and pickups of similar year model...at roughly 4.25 spacing between the center of the bolts. I've never bought anything from northwest and they don't list their prices. Also I've seen some other guys brackets that are weld on types. I'm thinking I'll just attempt to make some good bolt on solutions myself and get my friend to weld up the result, like in the pic I referenced above. I know there are various solutions here but I want to take the route of simplicity and utility...given what I have.

These should be easy to make . Have you looked at energy suspension to see if they have any that might bolt on . You can also call their tech line and give them the dimension you are needing who knows they might have it .

Yeah...I've been all over their web site and teh daystar web site. Previously I bought some daystar stops on an impulse buy after looking at some of their pics..months ago. I assumed I could use the slotted mount and or drill to make it work..not so. I looked at the universal stuff as their web site did not show anything for my LC. I just bet that the stops on teh LC are not unique in their mount vs other toyota stuff. Probally next weekend I'll make up some mounts like in post # 75 above and use one of the univseral single stud stops from either daystar or energy.
