Steering Wheel Rewrap

Greetings all,

The Achilles heel of the 200 is the weak leather on the steering wheel (as has been mentioned).

Has anyone has the leather professionally redone—pics please.

I’m not yet bothered by the nicks/tears, but am gauging my future options.

I have done something like that for my 21 yrs old (at that time in 2017) Camry that never had leather. The original wheel was coming apart, and the only replacement wheel still available shipped from Japan was of an awful gray color, so I needed to wrap it in something. Toyota wheel in leather was $800, local guy wanted $500 to wrap it, and RedlineGoods shift boots - https://www.redlinegoods.com/ wanted $129 (looks like the price is unchanged) for the cover with DYI install. The company is in the US but at that time the covers were made in Poland (maybe they still are) of high-quality EU leather (they have many kinds of leather to chose from). You can install it yourself (plenty of videos on YouTube) or at that time they also offered install option for $99. You shipped the wheel to their installer (at that time was in NY) and they installed the cover and shipped it back. It is now 7 years since I installed it and it still very nice, higher quality leather than many factory leather steering wheels. I love how it looks. It feels better to the touch than my LX wheel.
For me it was actually a bit more complicated than above as for whatever reasons the 97 US Camry had a thinner wheel than what RedLineGoods had in file. So, I sent my wheel to Poland for them to make a new template based on it. All went smooth and they were good to work and communicate with despite the geography.

Just checked and they have covers for LC.

Sorry, I do not have a picture of the cover installed on the wheel, just some pics from when I was working on it.

There are other products on amazon and ebay with DIY install. But the ones from RedLineGoods were of much better quality.

I went a different direction on our 2016, I ordered a PSV replacement steering wheel from Australia that eliminated the stupid wooden section on the top of the steering wheel. Super nice quality wheel and the center section and controls from the original wheel fit perfect.

As I understand it, this is a specific deficiency of the 2016+ LCs? Probably fixed in the latest model year LC but would be helpful to understand model year range where this was an issue?

I went a different direction on our 2016, I ordered a PSV replacement steering wheel from Australia that eliminated the stupid wooden section on the top of the steering wheel. Super nice quality wheel and the center section and controls from the original wheel fit perfect.

As I understand it, it's an issue for 2016-2021 models and Toyota has even issued a recall in other markets (not in NA).

Have a Oct 2020 build LC in use from new since late Nov 2020. Sofar no issue, then again only 33k miles so to early to tell. Must be said, we never did much with alcohol hand cleaners during COVID. I understand this is a bummer for some. In my case not to worried about it as there are options to fix this and I prefer a full non wood wheel in any case. With no heating fine for me in TX.

This has nothing to do with hand cleaners as I never used them and mines peeling like a bad sunburn. Hoping the 250 wheel may work out down the road.

Does anyone know if a similar replacement wheel is available for a '15?
